MK 2 Turbo... Please HELP! - Boost and starter issues

I have probably put this in the wrong section for getting a response, but hopefully not!...

I have just done an engine swap on my rev 1 turbo (straight swap for an un-damaged one!), but I am experiencing problems.

Firstly, on start up, the starter motor is staying engaged for a few seconds after the engine has fired, causing it to stall again.

Secondly, the car will not let me have boost!, it will boost but then hits a sort of fuel cut, but not the toyota normal one of just stopping boost... the whole car cuts out (and the starter motor kicks in again!!!)...

I have a feeling the boost issue may be due to the SSQV fitted, the seals may have perished or something, does this sound plausable?

Also with the starter motor, could it be that the motor is shorting itself on, and why would it do this?


Any help you lot can give will be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like you have wiring something up wrong. The was a similar post a while back.

Take pics of the wiring to the start motor, engine bay and crawl underneath and show how you have wired up the alternator and back of the inlet manifold.

Failing that, buy a BGB and check all your wiring.

Lose the dump valve and stick a standard one on there for the time being.

Have you plumbed in a boost gauge so you can see how its boosting?

Thanks for that!... I will try and see what has happened with the wiring, I am sure the wiring was done correct, but I could be wrong!...

I have a boost gauge fitted, it is showing that it won't boost above .3ish and if it does it cuts out completely....

It might be better for you to get a fellow members car next to yours and check everything. Woodsport is in Durham, they know the 3sgte quiet well, would pay to give them a call.
