mk2 turbo-scoop question

Post by RENOFOXX »

Does fitting a scoop make much difference to the running temperature of a mr2 turbo ?? And is there a web site to order them from ?? Thanks

Toms roof scoop:

I've read that without the special air box it was designed for it can alter the cooling in the bay.

I made my own custom box to compensate so 99% of air in the scoop went to the filter.

I know it was someone who knows a lot more than me.

You can pick replica's up on here and ebay from time to time.

That is all.

Any other scoops I don't have any information on.

the air scoop was originaly designed for the N/A mr2. with the TOM's air box sealed to the underside and housing a cone type filter. it has since been "borrowed" for cosmetic application on any engined mr2.

for the turbo i cant see much benifit regarding air flow, with the sealed box it wouldnt effect air flow cooling the engine bay. Without the sealed box people will argue eitherway as to whether it reduces the cooling properties. I dont believe it would have sufficient enough an effect under normal driving conditions to warrent concern.

for the N/A with the sealed box i have heard it makes a small difference on the torque and smooths the mid range.......this is however only talk as i only know of one person who has had both scoop and air box by TOM's

I have one on my car which I am thinking of removing as whilst on one hand it looks hardcore on the other hand it spoils the lines of the car but as I don't have extra engine bay cooling fans, any extra air feed must be a good thing.

I've read the scoop will stall the flow of cool air through the engine bay if not using the proper intake housing.

Air enters the enginebay from underneath the car. It then goes through the enginebay, and exits from the engine lid.

If you would add the scoop, air will also enter the enginebay from above, which will result in a turbulent flow inside your enginebay, which is something you don't want to create.

(I hope I used the correct English words)

In simple terms:
