[Mk2] [Turbo] Steering rack/column coupling

Post by jaymdee »

Hi,

I have recently acquired a non power steering rack to replace the powered rack in my turbo. I believe it came from an NA. The garage have rung and said they need the 'lower coupling' to connect the steering column to the rack. Can someone please give me a part number or suggestion? will this fit OK or is the Turbo and NA totally different fittings?

many thanks

More digging and it seems that the 1991 Rev 1 NA and 1994 Rev 3 turbo have different lower universal joints, different intermediate no2 shafts and different main shafts!!

can anyone confirm this? not going to be easy to source all these bits. All I want to do is revert to manual steering and ditch the PAS.

many thanks

I can see 3 parts on the EPC that differ:

YOKE SUB-ASSY, STEERING SLIDING (U-J)
SHIELD, STEERING COLUMN HOLE (thick washer at end of U-J)
SHAFT ASSY, STEERING INTERMEDIATE, NO.2 (intermediate shaft that goes in top of U-J)

They're marked as either standard parts or アリ(パワ- ステアリング) but as I don't speak Japanese I can't tell you whether that's with or without PAS...

Main shaft seems to be the same though :-k

I have all the parts from a rev 3 turbo that make up the steering system if you get stuck for anything, mechanical and electrical...obv these are for a power steering setup , just thought I'd mention it :thumleft:
