1989 rev1 twin entry turbo

Post by loudandproud205 »

I had one of these
Image

someone made an offer on it so we parted company leaving me this
Image

with out much thought process someone linked me to this on piston heads
Image

needed a little work, short tax and test, so drove 150 miles and collected for the pricely sum of £900

bit of tech

imported in 1998
1991 toyota MR2 3S-GTE T-bar
twin entry turbo
standard engine with dump valve (althou its had an after market air filter at some point as the adapter was in the boot)
turbo timer
trd leads and hks spark plugs
lowered about 45mm
17" alloys with bridgstone tyres
toad ai606 alarm cat 1 with lots of toys on it
half leather interior (scruffy)
painted consol
hks steering wheel
razo gearknob
sony double din cd,tape, radio
sony speakers (fit for the bin!)

hole hog of history with it,
engine and gearbox replaced in 2008 with a 80kms unit

Re: 1989 rev1 twin entry turbo

Post by loudandproud205 »

i since found out it was a december 1989 model not the 1991 as he stated :(

not the end of the world,

quick plans

tidy up the shell as paint is just starting to fade on the roof
good clean inside
have engine checked to make sure its 100%
have chassis checked make sure there is a nice clean platform
change clocks to 140 mph units (make sure its limitor has been raised)
japspeed quickshift

should be able to decide if i want to strip it or not after first track outing, main thing putting me of is the dash, and upseting weight balance

sorted 1 or 2 niggles out that were annoying me like
rear fog light, wire had broke somewhere so replaced the wire wors fine now, but what an ass of a job,
you need to unclip the side relflector to get at the retaining screws for cluster, then remove plasics in top of boot to get the inner retaining screw, cluster can then be removed, then there is the getting it from the boot throught the engine bay, and firewall removing all interior panels to try find suitable gromit, also double skined really didnt help, tyurned in to quite a long winded job.

got the turbo timer working correctly to now but interferes with alarm, so just have to either let it alarm its self which it does after around 5/6 mins or leave it for a min then alarm no effort really

got cd player and other speaker working as that was driving me insane

did give it a good wash and polish, but tyres have never been shined before so the application wasnt as sucessfull as id hoped, so its got more, gonna give it good polish again this week seems it didnt get done for trax it was filthy

while at trax did a 0-60 run and also decided it was a safe place to check if it was limited to 112mph still,

impressed ish with results for a first attempt 6.48s 0-60
Image
(thanks titch)

and i can report its not limited thank god saved me £180

however really looking for new steering wheel now as the hks one is doing my boobs in, but there was nowt took my fancy at trax

also found passenger side brake caliper to be binding causing pad to wear faster than normal, so awaiting new pads and see what i can do with caliper

(i have shiney pics of it when it was waxed being uploaded)

tried to be less homosexual today, by removing a bit of its fat!

not to much just yet, but both boots are now empty, also had a little look at the old owners attempt at audio and quite frankly he xxxxxx fails on epic levels,

brainstorm lets disconnect the 6 speaker system and sub, and fit 2 master bates ass sony co-axils in the doors that cut out crackle and are in general xxxxxx nasty, oh and dont fit, so he had brainwave to fit them with washers WTF!!!!

so gonna have a think about what to do about that,

also put little deposit down on some new seats,

won boost gauge and adjuster on ebay

bought fresh wheel from aidys mate, as the one thats in there is doing my boobs in and wasnt D shape so one of them should be on its way to me soon, fingers crossed its same mounting as the one i have,
Image

also mister barnes has sorted me some lovely seats out, which kinda puts a predicament on things fixed back carbon kevlar side mounted jobbies lovely small issue on mounting them thou, sure il sort it but may have bit of pondering.

also leaves me an issue on losing carpets and what not, not sure if am ready for that just yet as am enjoying a bit of comfort and refinement lol

ordered some more stalks as ive lost main beam, its there when i flash just not when i push slalk forward, strange it is

right so ive figured out copy and psting images dont work correctly, neither does colours dam it!!!

any way ive lost my camra cable for the pc, but ive bought some 15" track wheels, and won some silcone hoses from ebay

i shall update with pics when cable has reappeared or ive bought a new one

something ive learnt from this is that mr2 exhausts are hatefull things and if it ever needs working on again its going to exhaust and tyre place lol

few bits i missed last night.

some 15" split wheels designed for track use
Image

cant complain at another set of bargain wheels £50

and some silcone hoses that were fitted today and what a ball ache
Image

ive had to replace every old jubilee clip with brand new ones due boost pressure making old ones loose seal with new hoses fitted.

tided up the engine bay a fair bit.

exhaust system is now on and fully complete sound dee rumble on tick over but jesus its like death when you rev it up and it comes on boost.

just need to sort out that rear drivers side wheel nut now as it wont come of for me to fit the enkeis on the rear, and ive also picked up a nasty vibration from the from when i drive, feels like the wheel nuts are loose.

time for me to get some fresh stock versions and hae a look under it see if anything is a miss
