Has it started now?

Post by mikee66 »

One of the big releases of the year for ps3/360 has hit a problem with disc space and now the 360 version has had "considerable chunks" of the game taken out!

Is the way things are going to be with games becoming much larger? Maybe hd-dvd could make a comeback for 360 games?

Capcom has revealed that it was forced to make significant cuts to the Xbox 360 version of Lost Planet 2 due to the smaller disc size.

According to Kotaku, Lost Planet 2 producer Jun Takeuchi said that the DVD dics used in Microsoft's console required a portion of the game to be trimmed.

In comparison, the larger capacity Blu-ray discs used in Sony's PS3 meant that the cuts were not required.

He said the edited content on Xbox 360 was "way too much" and that dealing with the problem was "more difficult than anything" in the development.

"This time, truly, the content that was cut was significant," he added. "At the end, we had to wrestle with disc space."

Takeuchi said that the development team was almost in tears while having to cut swathes of the game to fit with the available DVD disc space.

However, he gave hope to Xbox 360 gamers with the suggestion that the trimmed content could still be made available "at a later date" as a downloadable package.

Lost Planet 2 will be released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in May.

Why couldnt they just put it on 2 discs instead of trying to rip off Xbox users and charging them for DLC

Firstly, Lost planet is not even close to one of the biggest releases of the year.

DVD9 does look like it may be an issue but theres a lot bigger games out there than lost planet and they have managed fine.

You just better hope that the PS3 starts to become the lead format otherwise the ps3 games will suffer too.

Lost planet 2 is a big release Sam, It's one of the biggest (not exlusive obv) multi platform games of the year.

I don't get what you mean about bigger games being fitted on a disc?

I'm sure Capcom are talented enough to squeeze every last bit of space out of a dvd9 disc mate.

It wasn't a dig at 360's anyway i was asking a serious question about the hd-dvd drive making a comeback in some sort of capacity?

Sega did a similar thing with the mega cd years back

Also marcus fenix and Dom from Gow and Albert wesker from re5 appear in it although i don't expect the gow guys to be in the ps3 version lol

Also i just read that for the release of re5 gold ed the 360 version comes with a voucher code to dl the stuff they couldn't fit on the disc unlike the ps3 version, Great in theory but what if you want to trade the game in or don't have a hdd or internet connection?

games like forza had to be split onto 2 disks but y? i ripped forza to my pc hdd and disk one is 6.3 gig and disk 2 was just under 3 gig....
mass effect 2 was the same. first disk around 5gig and second disk was 2.5 gig.
a dual layer disk is 8 gig give or take a few mb so why cant they just use one disk? its daft

Why can't they make a blu-ray external drive for the xbox? Surely that would expand the possibilities and also return a lot of sales to the xbox.

Would be interesting to know the source of that report. I seriously doubt it was an impartial comment and like anything I wouldn’t believe what you read, there is some serious axe grinding going on. Is this release going to debut on the PS3 first? If so then you have your explanation for the story!

It does beg the question why did Capcom not just put the full game on 2 discs? I suspect it was more due to the fact that they spied an opportunity to make more money through XBL and downloadable content. Think its safe to assume that XBL is leagues ahead of PSN in terms of downloadable paid content.

Because that would be admitting they were wrong, no one does that.

It does keep coming up that MS are considering a blu ray drive but im not sure they ever will.

Natal is the main focus at the moment and that alone could mean that DVD9 is fine for capacity if that brings enough new content and experiences as its meant to.

mikee, lost planet is a good game but its not a big hit. The first game was a sleeper hit and alot of people missed out.

the only reason the second is getting so much press is because of all the extras they have thrown in.

Its no small fish but to say its one of the biggest games this year is kinda wrong.

Call of duty, Final fantasy, the line if it comes out this year. Theylll be big hitters.

Tbh one man's great game is another's tosh but it's funny you say final fantasy Sam when it's been said that once again the 360 comes 2nd best to the ps3 in that experience?

Maybe because the ps3 was the lead console and when it came to porting it over the 360 just couldn't handle what the ps3 could?

Nontheless i think ms will have to sort out the disc problem otherwise they'll start losing customers.

Im not basing it on my opinion. Im basing it on the communitys reaction to the game tho.

And you say once again comes second best. This is about the second time lol.

Multi plats are 90% of the time better on 360. They are even more supported after release than some PS3 games.

Ill agree that DVD9 is gonna reach its limit before the PS3 but Final Fantasy is crap example!

It will have about 2 hours of HD CGI. Thatll be half a bluray disc on its own.

2 hours is being kind too!

You are basing it on your own opinion though sam, And also they've dropped the 360's resolution and cut back on the textures as well cos the 360 just couldn't handle it. And if it was a case of just hd cgi why not add another disc or 2?

It just seems that the ps3 is starting to come into it's own Sam and unfortunately you are just so biased you can't see it.

I dont know how else to say it. I vist alot of games forums and i can tell you for 100% certainty that the general reaction to LOST Planet is "yea it looks good, i may have a look".

Theres the fans of the first game, myself included that are excited about it but it didnt get enough people hooked in to be a huge hit. Hopefully this game will do it though as i loved the first game.

I agree that the PS3 is doing better now. As i said in the other thread. Its not the console i have a problem with.

lol the ps3 boys will do anything to say 'our games are going to get better and we dont care about having to wait for the return of jesus so he can bring us the new gt5'

Im no fan boy but the way I see it is the xbox has been out a lot longer than the ps3, so the ps3 is bound to have some better technology, its just will the majority of game makers bother using it all the time? Especially like already mentioned, the game makers can make more money from xbox users with the downloadable content.

Fragmented market.
What percentage of xbox owners would have the external bluray drive to be able to play it?

It's bad enough xbox developers having to cater for those that don't have a harddrive :D

But no games NEED a HDD like on the PS3 so there not catering for anything.....

Thats another point. Fancy bluray isnt fast enough to play games. Although that doesnt seem to happen as often now i dont think?

Bluray is plenty fast enough to play games, Arguably the best console game ever (uncharted 2) has no install and no loading screens and the graphics are fantastic also Killzone 2, Uncharted 1, inFamous (only needed very little) and the upcoming God Of War III

I didnt say Bluray wasnt fast enough. It was the drive speed.

And i said i dont think it happens as much now. They have obviously figured out a way round it now.

There are plenty of games out on 360 that dont require any install yet the PS3 versions all did.

Im not saying that makes bluray crap. merely highlighting another flaw in sonys super console.
