[Mk2] [NA] FOB CODING

Post by P11SCL »

Just bought a fob from ebay and looking to code it to my car

the car has the standard rev 4 toyota security system installed.

is it possible to do it yourself, or must you take it to the stealers?

From what I've read, it's not a case of "programming" the fob.

What you have to do is put the receiver in "learn mode" and then press the buttons on each fob in turn so that the receiver recognises the fob in future.
IIRC, you do this by bridging 2 wires somewhere in the back of the receiver which puts it in learn mode.

I guess your first step would be to see if you can find the receiver in the car and see how easy it'd be to get to the connector etc.
If you don't fancy all the hassle of doing this (up under the dashboard somewhere?) I guess it'll have to go to a dealer.

FWIW, I had a similar issue ages ago (for me it was simply that one of the fobs stopped being recognised after the missus pressed it for about 30 seconds or something) but it now seems to have sorted itself out.
After disconnecting the battery for a couple of weeks both fobs worked fine when I reconnected the battery.

I googled for something like "MR2 keyfob reprogramming" and found a couple of websites with all the info on what you have to do.

*EDIT*
Just to be clear, I've never actually DONE this.
I just read up on it about a year ago when I had the problems with one of my keyfobs.
Sorry I can't be more help. I'm just relating the stuff I recall reading on the interweb.

Right done it

After alot of searching, and trying lots of different methods:

Rev 4 MR2 re-synchronizing of the key fobs:
Take battery out of fob.
Get well away from car.
Press down both fob buttons for 30 seconds
Re-assemble fob.
Go to car press unlock twice.

Key words for people searching: keyfob program re-program sync synchronize (help others took me long enough to find the right word)
