[Mk2] [Turbo] therostat stuck open??

Post by pistol pete »

well when i bought the turbo
dash temp not working...

but i have recently noticed that it moves to just above the c on cold when standing still and drops down a bit when moving

with the cold weather could it be the thermostat is stuck open??

i am later this week chanign the sender and the thermostat and coolant as its quite brown so in need of a change

wondering if there is a small block somewhere as the fans blow warmish.. not hot..

so 2nd Q is what should i use to flush the coolant system out other than just leaving water running though for a while or is that the best option....

cheers

I doubt it's the cold weather, it should warm up eventually if standing still :-k

sounds expensive to flush out the system other than using water. I shall be flushing mine out with water and using the Halfords Advanced "mix it yourself" coolant :)

sounds like the thermostat is stuck open. You can flush with plain water, certainly I did that with the mk1 the mk2 was looked after better by the previous owner and then by me.

Either that or it's had overheating problems in the past and someone's drilled the thermostat.

I had the same symptons as you when i bought my turbo, replaced the thermostat and all was good, the thermostat i took out was clearly stuck open.

*Appartently* quite common on 3s-gte's

I used toyota's 4life coolant (£££'s)
