[Mk2] [NA] Green ECU Water Temperature Sensor - Where the bleedin eck does it go

Post by RobPhoboS »

Just before I sling my head back into the engine bay -

Please could someone upload a photo of an engine bay with an arrow bit of advice as to where it is, and how to replace it ?

Sorry

I've seen this:

But that's a turbo, will have a ganders.

Pretty sure it goes in the same place, or near as damnit anyway. The coolant necks are very similar.

PLEASE EXCUSE BAD NAMING HERE !!!

Howdy, I gave Luke at P.W a quick call, and yep it pretty much is there, just underneath the throttle cable wire thingy.

Looks like I have to take off the throttle in-take thingy, and disconnect the upper one (just the wires), then 19mm spanner to undo the other one.
Seems like a stupidly tight space to do this ](*,)

It's under less stuff on the turbo engine (unless you've got a chargecooler in which case it's a nightmare). I would recommend a 19mm deep socket rather than a spanner if you've got one as there isn't much space to wield a spanner in there. It's only a half hour to an hour though.

Bleed the coolant afterwards as a little will come out and replace the crush washer used on the sensor.

Which revision you got, if its a rev 1/2, click the link below and go to post #6 which has a pretty good pic.

I changed mine last weekend, its a bit awkward to see, but once you`ve unplugged the connector, you just need a long 19mm socket. I removed the cross brace so I could get in easier, oh, and no coolant leaked out.

Hey guys,

Had to get an early night yesterday so after buying a 19mm spanner I had to kip
Just about to head out there now, I'm hoping I have a deep socket that will fit, or it's back to Halfrauds to get one !
Using a deep socket will be much better for me.

I've never bled the coolant before, is there a guide for it ?
(that's if I need to right?)

To be honest, such a small amount of coolant will come out that all you need to do is run the engine, let it cool, then top up the coolant at the cap, you will only lose a teaspoon or two.

I went an bought a proper deep 19mm socket, checked that it would fit over the sensor too :thumleft:
Note to other viewers - HALFORDS one's do not fit.
I went to Cromwells.
