Quiet Rev2 N/A Exhausts?

Post by tranx »

The MR2 I just bough has a quite loud exhaust and de-cat on it. Twin exit 4" pipes off a single silencer all in stainless steel. I can't see any markings to indicate who made it. Downpipes are original I think.

I'm looking for something a lot quieter so that at a cruise on the motorway it's the same as stock or not much louder.

Is the stock exhaust back section my only choice and will I need a CAT as well if I go back to the stock?

Also as it stands will the large size of the exits be hindering performance with low back pressure?

Sorry if some of the questions are stupid but I've only ever mucked around with exhausts on bikes before never cars.

when i had my N/A i went through a few exhaust before i was happy ! i had a blue flame which sounded great but was far to loud IMO. i had a magnex which was ok perfmance wise but was quite old and was rather noisey . i did quite alot of motorway miles and myself wanted somerhing that sounded sporty but wasnt gonna give me headache on the motorway . what i ended up with was a remus exhaust . this had a lovely sound and had a nice throaty rasp at higher rpm :thumleft: :thumleft: was great on the motorway and of all the exhausts this one gave my car the best performance out of all of them .

Awesome sounds like you had exactly the same problem. Any ideas on where best to find a remus exhaust?

Anyone that has one and wants to go louder willing to swap?

Whatever it is on my car is only 300 miles old, still brand new.

i bought mine second hand for £150 and it was only 4 weeks old ! they are quite rare but worth it. in my opinion the best aftermarket exhaust for the N/A

mine was black when i got it but i took the paint off and polished it up :thumleft:

here is how it looked on my old 2

That looks ideal but the back section alone is £550 on that site + £220 postage!

If one comes up in the UK I'll jump at it but that's an insane price! I could have another made for me but quieter for that. Hmmm there's an idea . . . :-k

I asked the guy I bought my MR2 from and the loud exhaust on there was a custom one off made for the car.

No cat with the car otherwise I would have tried that to start with. I've bought a standard exhaust from MR2 Ben on here. That should at least do for the mean time. I love the noise of the loud system but as this will be a daily drive I just can't put up with that on the motorway every day.

I might see if a friend of mine who does bike exhausts can do something to quieten it down rather than fab a whole new exhaust.
