Apexi Power FC - worth it?

Post by Craigo »

hello,

been thinking about one of these for a while but to be honest i have no idea what benefit it will have. I know they're expensive and for that reason alone i've always thought it is worth having an upgraded ECU...but what specifically does it do?

at the moment i have blueflame exhaust,decat,e-bc, apexi air filter, stock IC. last dynoed at 280bhp before EBC fitted and boost up'd to 15psi...maybe now 300bhp?

what gains/benefit will i see from a power FC?...should i upgrade IC first...cant really afford both.

any help appreciated

cheers

Definatly change the IC first or go with a ST205 Charge cooler instead. Even then do you realy need a Power FC? Personally I would do IC first then if you plan on uprating anything else engine wise go with the Power FC.

It is a Big price to pay without having the mods to make the most of it (eg bigger Turbo, Injectors etc) £750 + Mapping so around £1,000? Maybe more if you need it fitted as well.

Def worth it !

I got one second hand - 480 euros :)

Basically, I am going to be able to run E85 and that burns much cooler, so allowing more advance. Mate of mine went PFC / E85 route and his car runs so much better now.

But you do get the most benefit once you upgrade other components.

Definitely worth it but would suggest upgrading intercooler.
Once done and mapped correctly you should be looking around 310bhp.

I'm getting near that (well 305) on the standard ecu. With all the added protection it gives. I did have a pfc but I ended up selling it as I never ended up using it, although it would be nice to see how much more power i'd get with one.

I found the PowerFC worth it for all the information and control you get with the Commander, also the map that Ryan at 2Bar made is so much smoother and more usable than the standard rev3 map - made it easyer to adjust the throttle coming out of corners.

Anyone happen to have a copy of their powerfc map (fc-edit on datalogit) on a st205 CC (Gen III Engine + components)?

interested to see how their maps differ from my own given levels of mods.
