XBOX 360RROD
I've held off buying a darn 360 for ages, ever since buying the first Xbox JUST to play Halo 1. (It then came out on the damn pc.) I then played Halo 2 on the pc and read the books, all of them.
I want to play Halo 3. I do.
£42 later. RROD console. Anyone interested in pictures of how and what I'm going to do to try and fix the thing?
I've had a quick look and the net's full of complete Anchors selling repair guides. Idiots. Hope it goes well as after I've played Halo 3, it'll be back on ebay.
Fingers crossed.

Re: XBOX 360RROD
It's a half hour fix, costs a few quid and has a very high success rate.

Re: XBOX 360RROD
here is my new fix. after a pretty extensive bashing of cod 5 last night my xbox started over heating every hour or so (ive already fixed it once)
this is my fix i have this (naked xbox viewer discretion is advised lol)
its sitting on top of this:
so now to keep my xbox cool i have to keep my pc on while i play, which i usually do anyway. my pc temps were around 47° the hole 5 hours so not too stressful and it works like a charm lol the heatsinks were ice cold for the entier 5 hours

poke a SMALL screw driver through the holes in the sides as u lift the front of the plastic grids and they pop off easy. for the back do the same inside the little notches along the back plate but gently lift the top of the case as u do it so it pops up.
you can buy the unlock kits for about £3 they are very handy indeed
i can probably dissemble one in about a min and half now lol

Nice
Well, it's arrived and taking the case off was quite easy, even though I can see how people could snap bits etc. So farm no need for any special tools at all.

I have a sneaky feeling that it's been open before
http://www.anandtech.com/systems/showdo ... i=2610&p=2
and then he gets to the X-clamps... scratch that... easy
The heatsink for the GP is far, far too small and naff. I would see if I could get a better one but nah, I'm here now so might as well clean, apply and put back together. Plus the x-clamp doesn't make it easy to apply thermal grease, then apply the damn clamps

Really ?
Did you buy it new ?
Ive been looking into the whole fixing thing and ive heard various things about used parts from broken consoles going inside the ones being sold as new on the shelves....and even ones that have been repaired, fitted with a new skin and packaged up to sell as new. WTF !!! Guess MS trying to save some money anyway they can. Bit naughty if you ask me !!!

Nah
Nah, pucrhased from ebay so there you go
Error code:
0102 unknown error - literally means the console does not know what is wrong. Possibly a short or cold solder joint somewhere (2 reports of people repairing this, one was removing moisture build up inside the console, the other used a hot-air rework to reflow the BGA Ram chips)
Crappo.
