Did some work on the F1 turbo set ups to get boost in early, had one or 3 British touring car teams running nitrous as well as a British rally cross champion. Turbocharged two outboard engines. lots of things like that.

would be interesting to know if, 27 years on, you are still championing the water injection?
you mentioned about people just needed educating about it, bet nowt much has changed there

i'm guessing you have driven quite a few different cars, how does the mr2 turbo compare in your opinion?
what have been the major developments/changes on the tunning scene since you started?

Yes I think any turbo should be using water, it works so well when the installation is right. And when I say right I mean having the injectors in the manifold runners down by the head, not just one up by the TB. The benefits of water only take place in the cylinders not in the manifolding.

Back in 2000 I had the money to get almost any car I wanted, the one I went for was the MR2. I think it does everything I want in a car very well. I like cars I can change, I have never had a standard car.
The most fun I had was in a big block AC Cobra on the way down to Kent one evening going to pick up a new carb for it. No cars on the road so put my foot down, I took it back off when everything was a blear, about 190 mph.
The other was when I fitted nitrous on a Lancia Stratos. From a standing start it did not stop spinning the wheels till I was in 5th gear.

That is just what it is like.
I went up to an engine dyno one day to set up a system on a hill climb car.
The engine was a 1600 race engine giving 250hp and the driver wanted an extra 100hp. So we ran the engine up and I just drilled out the jets till we got what he wanted................easy

at the throttle body is the only way i have seen it done on an mr2, is this not really worth doing then?
by "down by the head" do you mean drilling/tapping the inlet manifold? one injector per cylinder?
cheers

Now this is where it starts getting harder to explain.

It is widely thought that water injection works by cooling down the air flow in the inlet manifold, so by putting the injector back by the TB or just after the inter-cooler the water will have more time to do its work. The problem with this idea is that there is not a high enough temperature in the air for the water to start absorbing it, there is also not enough time for that to happen and even if it did the water would expand with the heat and displace air flow, not what is needed.
By injecting the water in each manifold runner down by the head it has no time to displace air, goes into each cylinder in even amount, absorbs large amounts of heat changing to steam in the cylinders stopping detonation and knock, then the expanding steam increases the cylinder pressure and gives back what was lost by the cooling in the first step.

Lots more info here

My son has just found the electronic controls I had made for my water injection systems, I will have to start selling them again.
