[Mk2] [NA] Rear speakers - 10cm?

Post by rowey200 »

I want to replace the rear speakers in my Mk2 Rev4. Am I right in thinking that they are 10cm in width?

Also, any recomendations what to fit...i've got JBL's in the front....and is it an easy job to remove the trim to fit them?

Cheers in advance :thumleft:

I'm just doing mine too!
Fitted the front speakers (component 16cm pioneers) and a Kenwood 4channel AMP, now i'm pondering shall i stick in rear speaekrs or a sub :?
If its rear speakers then its 6x9's in the cubby boxes :)
Rear speakers in the original position don't generate enough mid bass

I hear what your saying, but I still want to replace the original rear speakers as anything has got to be better than the 12 year old units that are in there at the mo

Standard rear speakers are 8.7cm (3.5"). 10cm should fit but might need a bit more work.

I remember in one of the posts they said they can get 4inch alpines in the rear.
They anit gonna put much out as there only 4inch.

I have just made my mind up and i'm sticking in a 10" Alpine sub (enclosed) behind the drivers seat. Amp is on the passengers side.

So basically, just running componets up front and a 10"sub :)

I think this should be suffcient as the cabin is small.

I let you know how it goes and try get some pics of the set up

Hi All,
Managed to get the SUB in after making the fatal mistake of installing the AMP on the wrong side #-o

So after another 3hrs of stripping the interior and rewiring, the sub went in.
I got this Alpine 10" and box of ebay for 25quid, so it was quite a cheap option as a good pair of 6x9's would of cost me at least 40quid and they would of never would of kicked out as much Bass as a 10".

Good thing was that the sub box actually fitted quite well (dimension of box Bottom Depth 11 1/4", Top Depth 7.5", Width 15", Height 14").
I removed the passenger storage box lid and the box sat in at an angle, so the back was perfectly flush with the back of the 2, it also tilted the front of the box up so the seat could be reclined at a comfortable angle.

I put some velcro on the back of the sub so this stopped the SUB from moving forwards when braking, because the sub box sat in the storage compartment box it was not able to move side to side.

Would post some pisc but i feel a bit of a doughtnut as i am not sure how to :?

Would love to find out more about your setup mate. The sub + box you got is really cheap :thumleft: I always wanted a sub but not very sure what box to go with.

You can upload your pictures here (it's faster than imageshack) :

www.tinypic.com (you can also select an option to resize it if you want)

After that just copy and paste the link here ;)

To all you guys who upgraded your rear speakers: Did you really find a noticeable and worthwhile gain from doing so?

Just after getting my car I replaced the front mids/tweets with Vibe SEK50 components run off the head unit, and added a sub behind the passenger seat.

Then my bro in law gave me some sony 2way 4" to go in the rear, but I found when I hooked them up they did nothing for the overall sound of the setup, and I could only really hear them with my head turned looking out the window at junctions etc.

I disconnected them in the end as I found it distracting. =;

I'm using the factory stock headunit as i didn't want to change it, as it might attract attention, it does the job too :D

Total cost was £70 (Kenwood Amp £45 came with free wiring kit, Sub/Box £25, Front components were free off my bro \:D/ )

Thanks SW20GTS for the tip on how to upload pics :thumleft:

Nps mate :thumleft:

Looks like a very clean and dedicated install lol. When I did my 6x9s + amp I just stuffed the wiring inside the carpets or any crevices I could find lol. Do you still happen to have the details for the box? It is quite hard finding a suitable a cheap box that will fit.

There's not too much info of the box except the dimensions which are :
Bottom Depth 11 1/4"
Top Depth 7.5"
Width 15"
Height 14"

And its not ported

Hope that helps :)
