Post by Andy Jones »

Live today and just curious if anyone has installed it yet (i haven't) because it hasn't had a very good reception so far.

Says 2.80 is the latest here...

http://uk.playstation.com/ps3/

:-k

Will see tonight.

*edit, just checked the Australian official site, they're on v3.00.

Nothing hacks me off more than switching on my PS3 and not being able to play online due to an update that ISN'T available to download on my wired connection to the PC

That's exactly what I do.

Except Sony don't update the 'latest' firmware on their website ](*,)

From what i've read:

New XMB with animated backgrounds and boot up sound (that everyone seems to hate)

They've changed the appearance of the avatars and friends list (that everyone seems to hate)

The XMB seems to be a bit quicker

UK has built in iPlayer

Some form of trophy add-on thingy ???

Still no cross game chat that everyone was hoping would finally make an appearance in 3.0.

Also hate the adverts they've put into vidzone as from 2.8, Everytime i seemed to skip a track from a playlist i had to watch the final destination trailer and after this reached double figures i'd given up and switched it off

EDIT: Then i scrolled futher down and saw the link Fizz posted #-o

What a crock, They said as of Firmware 2.8 you didn't have to update to access the PSN. That didn't last long

PSN store on XMB is now a (poor) slight rip off of the latest 360 dashboard, Either it's me or they've increases the icons and text size (and now it looks cluttered) and the grey boxes round the friends lists looks pants

Hopefully they'll lay off the class A drugs for the next installment.

I just downloaded this from the Japanese PSN (for free)...

I've heard a rumour that it'll be on the US & European PSN tomorrow, and it may cost!!!

Also new in v3, in the network settings, in the connection test - it now tells you your upload/download speed.

I just installed it directly from the PS3 over wireless and it was quite quick actually so no need to download it onto a USB stick really.

:thumleft:

I don't often go on the Jap PSN shop though, it's a little difficult to understand

Similar can be applied to access the US PSN shop :thumleft:

Get with the program Fizz :D

US PSN sometimes gets certain game demos before us but EU PSN seems to get the majority first.

But this year we've had the Resistance 1 map packs and Rag Doll Kung-Fu for free off the US site, The offer never came to the EU PSN so it's worth checking. A mate got Fat Princess off the US site too because i think he said it worked out £3 cheaper so it's always worth checking both EU and US before purchasing a PSN title.
