[Mk2] [NA] Electrical Aerial replacement - Rev 5

Post by jennyt125 »

Hi,
Finally bought a UK na rev 5 t-bar exactly what I was after.
Only fault is as with many the electric aerial broke and has been removed.
I've been looking at various replacements but the previous owner tells me the rev 5 1998 onwards aerial is different. Anyone had experience of the rev 5 aerial and know if this is true?
I know rev 1&2 were different from rev 3 onwards because of the spoiler but the rev 5 appears to be mounted in the same place as rev 3&4.

Has anyone fitted either the Malpin or this one:

Again looks very similar to stock.
Many thanks, Jenny

looks good, does it drain in the usual way, thru the hole in the boot floor?

a previous post on this was to fit one of these aerials http://www.uniqueaudioandstyling.co.uk/ ... -201-p.asp inside the rear panel in the boot. Take the live feed and aerial wire from the existing unit and bob's yer auntie :thumleft:

I had a look at the ebay one as well. I PMed the seller concerning a connection for the relay. His reply was that I have to cut some wires. Not really sure what that means.

The MR2 electric aerial has a separate relay that controls the aerial. I think if you don't plug the relay in the aerial will go up as soon as you turn the stereo on regardless of whether you are listening to the radio or not. I could be wrong though.

Quick update.

Just got OEM aerial replacement for my aerial which has the Toyota relay and what nots. From what I have seen during tests, the relay doesn't do anything much :P

All it does is raises the antennae when the stereo is switch on. It won't go down unless you switch it off - won't even go down if you change to CD etc.

So I don't see any use of the relay tbh, like mentioned earlier, just connect the 0 and 12V wires to the aftermarket one and it should work fine.

Thanks for the replies.
I got a 1996 rev3 aerial from ebay fitted fine onto the rev5 and is working (for now  ).
