[Mk2] [Turbo] how much bhp (estimate and any sugestions)

Post by mr2daj »

just bought a rev 3 turbo. some really nice parts fitted and its running really well and boosts very smoothly to around 1.2bar which fades slightly towards the higher revs. just wanting a rough bhp estimate and whats next really. it has a hks mushroom filter, blitz nur spec, blitz dump valve, mine's ecu...... thats about it i think. i have also changed plugs, leads, rotor arm and dizzy cap and done a full engine service including fuel filter. also has tein super street adjustable coilovers and cusco pillow ball mounts.

thanks Dan.

I would guess at around 280-90hp I suppose the next steps depend on the level of performance you want. A chargecooler is probably the next port of call really I think, which should see 300hp :) Sounds nice that mate :)

cheers mate and thanks thats what i was thinking. didnt really want to go down the chargecooler route as i have just sold a gt4 st205. what are good intercooler options? anyone know if i can piggyback a mines ecu on the same way as u can with standard?

Would definatly get an upgraded intercooler as you are running the highest boost possible on that set up. Lots of options out ther from the usual supects but i have heard a few people using cheaper e-bay ones and all is ok. A good second hand ARC or Greedy one will be about £250 i guess.

Also i doubt you will be hitting 280-290 with the cat still in place, more likely 260-270. Get a de-cat which will probably help with boost tail off at higher revs too.

I've got a GReddy IC, the difference between it and the standard IC is huge.

i agree, de-cat is the next step then IC

i wouldnt be running 1.2bar of boost on stock IC and fuelling...might be fine but i personally wouldnt be comfortable with the added strain on OEM parts.

My Rev3 has got de-cat, filter, EBC, stock ECU...running 1.bar and dynoed at 280bhp. i would have thought upgraded IC and ECU would see me running 320 but i'm happy with what i've got.

I'm dynod at 285hp/265tq on my Rev3 with exhaust/downpipe, ARC airbox, 0.9 bar peak dropping off to 0.8 in the high revs.

Now running a Blitz EBC at 1bar, and I have a chargecooler to be fitted.

i have no way of lowering my boost as it is ecu controlled. i would have to fit a boost controller. my next steps are defo an IC and decat. need to change cluch as its just on the verge of sliping and the extra power will defo see it off!!! want to get it on a dyno and see where i am at and have the fueling cheched out. it is very fast though. maybe 2 fast lol. i am a time served mechanic and run my own garage. i do my best to look after the car. it is regularly serviced and i have just replaced all of the HT system. i only boot it when i know the intercooler should be at its coldest and run the highest octane fuel available. anyone know if i can pigyback my mines ecu?

not sure about the piggyback question, but i would deffinately get a decat downpipe before getting iit rolling roaded.....should free up a bit more power for such a simple mod....

I would get a boost controller first, as the decat is going to raise the boost, and you really dont wanna be going over 1.2 with stock intercooler etc.

thats what i was thinking as when i had my gt4 st205 it had terrible boost creep bocause the exhaust was too free flowing. would go to almost 30psi if i let it. dont want the same problems. next mods are defo new cluch, ic, then go on the dyno and see how things are looking a/f ratio wise and possibly EGT then boost controller and decat. anything more than this and i guess i am looking at a manifold, turbo and an ecu and everything esle asociated with that. what sort of bhp will the stock internals take? i had to rebulid my gt4 twice due to ring lands cracking!!!

Its basically the same engine as the ST205.
