Need a word of advice if poss regarding mot and insurance

Post by princess_slc22 »

Hi all, just looking for a quick word of advice - my mot was due last week and iv only just realised (duh) but the problem is that I have a huge crack in my windscreen that I am in the process of getting sorted.
Everyone has told me to go through the insurance as the excess would work out cheaper then the price of getting it fixed myself. However to make an insurance claim they will need to see that the car has a valid mot, and its gonna fail the mot due to the cracked windscreen, so what do I do?
I have a week off work now so need to get it sorted as soon as poss but I just know this is gonna end up costing me a fortune! :( any advice would be very much appreciated.
Cheers :)

I dont think they ask for an MOT when you get a screen fitted.. Atleast i've never been asked.

I don't think the mot will matter, your car doesn't need to be on the road to warrant it being insured, my first mr2(god rest it's soul) was burnt out and the insurance still paid out, they just took into account it had no mot, and based the offer around it, give them a ring, or speak to ollie at sky insurance on here, he'll keep you right:) hope this helps:)

we didnt need to show our MOT when we claimed on glass :thumleft:

Ring your insurance and ask, whats the worst that can happen :thumleft:

Whenever i restore a car i always get a new screen fitted with no mot or tax. Usually costs £65 excess but well worth it.

insurance , and it does not affect/ or count as a claim
just play the excess, but do check some insurance have these as option, just make sure your insurance cover include windscreen cover

Get a bottle of that fuel system cleaner in the tank before hand, that will help it through. Also, it could be something simple like your lambda sensor has broke, making it fail emissions.

It failed on co2 and hydrocarbon so it probably is the lambda sensor. Is this a diy job for someone who knows nothing lol
