Brand new buckled wheel

Post by summ0004 »

To cut a long story short.

I purchased a set of team dynamics pro race 1.2 wheels and tyres from demon tweeks and have found that one of the wheels required 100 grams of weights to get it in balance!
I was then told that the wheel must have some sort of defect to require this level of balancing.

Anyone else had problems with these particular wheels or ever needed this level of balance correction?

I presume balancing was done with tyres on the rims? If so I would be inclined to rotate the tyre 180 deg on the rim, you should find it balances alot better now

Yes it was balanced with tyre on the rim.

The guy did inspect for correct tyre fitment and seemed to think it looked ok tho. Can always try rotating the tyre he seemed to think the wheel itself had some sort of runout.

id try rotating the trye, as you may have a heavy spot on the wheel matching up with a heavy spot on the tyre

I had a similar issue with my un-buckled advans, I had some new tyres put on and it took about 80g to balance them, I told the tyre fitter to rotate the tyre 180deg (which he reluctantly did  ) and the wheel then balanced with 10g

That's funny because I bought a set of MOMO Torque 3000's from DT last year for my GT4 -the very first box I opened, the alloy (polished rim) looked like it had been dragged across a rough concrete workshop floor before putting it (perfectly) in the box before sending out to me. All got sorted though. Util they all corroded to f'k in 2 or 3 months .... different story i guess but adds to the DT stuff..

...I don't have problems with Pro race 1.2's (I've had them for years and been faultless but not through DT!!!!!!) But DT I am a tad weary of now amongst other teeny tiny basic things that should have bveen easy.

Are you swapping tyres onto the wheels? -they're supposed BTCC approved wheels so they should be OK.

all new tires should have red or yellow dots on the side walls, line them up with the valve on the wheel and they should balance up much better.
