Exhaust popping and banging

Post by Firestick »

I've had this a couple of times now when I've changed gear and the exhaust pops. (Magnex back box with standard centre section)

I love all this (Reminds me of a drive I had in a Caterrham)and want more. Anyone else get this and how do you get more?

Generally the Mk1s exhaust only pops when the ignition timing is a bit out

Mine does it all the time, lift on and off in 2nd and 3rd and sounds like like a gun going off.

I get it Loads with the Big Janspeed fitted.

Heavy foot in 4th/5th lug the engine basicaly over fuel it foot to the floor then lift off then as the revs drop lower just lightly tap the throttle just to take the engine off load and you should pop.

Get it alot more with Vpower 99.6 than bogo standard 95 :thumleft:

All the Janspeeds I've had have popped and banged more than other exhausts.

Since fitting this bad boy I get alot. But its down to the timing being slightly advanced

Mine does it also and I agree it sounds cool as. I've driven behind my car when a friend was 'ragging' it and you can see a puff of what I presume is fuel coming out at the same time!

I know my engine is healthy so I'm guessing it's just a bit rich.

could be an air leak in teh system causing pressure changes from the cold air entering. or overfueling etc they shouldn't do it with the small bore of the magnex exhaust.

As above, i got it alot more when i had a leak at the exhaust to manifold join. Not so much now though but a mate has said its thrown a small flame before.

PS. I have the SS Janspeed system.

advanced timing is usually what makes them pop all the time. the backfire is not that great if its gets to be all the time on lift-off.
small leaks will also do the same (ie like the chavs that used to put small holes in exhausts on purpose)

Be careful, as this might happen!

This was the result of chasing my mates boss' V8 Vantage. Yes, I knew it would never happen but wanted to hear the noise from the Aston  .

Unfortuanately I missed a gear, causing it to rev its nuts off, then when I got it in gear and put my foot down again it unleased the biggest BANG I've ever heard! And the above pic was the result (blew the backbox apart at the seam). Even though I was gutted I still couldn't stop laughing! . It was insanely loud after that!
