Black billies + which springs...?

Post by shabz »

Is it ok to fit tein springs to the standard black billies? or would they need to go on with uprated shocks?

Also...which decently priced, fairly low (35mm) springs are out there? except the tein

you can put lowering springs on standard black billies, but they are not designed for lowered/firmer springs, and due to this one of my rear shocks didnt last long atall after fitting my tein springs.

I think you'd find you were mahoosivley under damped if you use Tien springs with black billies, would be quite bouncy :-k

Yup. You need the yellow B6s if you're going with Teins.

The tein springs I've used are indeed green. I'm sure they do a range of different rates though, and I'm not sure what colours they use.

TBH I think even the yellow billies are underdamped for the springs I've got- the s-tech dress masters (in my opinion that is)

Looks like the same set up as mine. From Rogue? Didn't realise there were different rates. Be interested to know then what the range is and what I have.

Have a look on the Tein website- gives you an idea of the rates...in practice the only way to be sure is to measure the rates though.

I don't suppose anybody knows the standard springs rates? I guess they'd differ between revs also? Thx for the Tein info ashman. No range then unless Rogue (or another) can advise?

Springs are pretty easy to get made up in whatever rates you want them, not too expensive either...

Don't know what the standard rates are, sorry.

I'm sure the Tien website listed several ranges of springs, but they tended to be grouped by the amount they lower the car not the rates they give- I'll have a look when I get home tonight (can't really search for that stuff whilst at work!)

With Teins it looks like they'll make you pretty much whatever you like in terms of height and rate:

www.tein.co.uk/product/racing_springs.html

The Tein MR2 setups are here:

www.tein.co.uk/installation_manual/toyo ... 89-98.html

Struggling to find the standard spring rates...

I'm not positive about some of these numbers and info, so if they're inaccurate, just post the right ones or let me know. Good luck shoppers!

I don't know if these stock figures are right, they don't make sense. Shouldn't be that similar.

1991 Turbo
F: 130lb/in. linear
R: 209lb/in. linear

1993 (don't know whether NA or Turbo, is there a difference?)
F: 130lb/in. linear
R: 210lb/in. linear

Suspension Techinique
F: 98-150lb/in (progressive) 1" drop
R: 179-235lb/in (progressive) 1" drop

TRD
F: 168lb/in (supposedly progressive, haven't seen the range though)
R: 308lb/in (same as fronts) both are 1.0" drop

Eibach Pro-Kit
F: 100-210lb/in. progressive, 1.0"
R: 140-303lb/in. progressive, 1.0"

Eibach Sportline

R: 120-348lb/in. progressive

Tokico
F: 126lb/in. (supposedly progressive) 0.75"
R: 141lb/in. (supposedly linear, sounds way too soft) 0.75"

H&R Sport
F: 230-260lb/in. progressive 1.4"
R: 235lb/in. linear 1.3"

Tein S. Tech
F: 154lb/in. 1.5"

kg/mm S21 Race
F: 165lb/in. 46mm, 1.8" i think
R: 240lb/in. 25mm, 0.98" i think

Tanabe SUSTEC GF210
F: 2.3kg/mm=129lb/in. 1"
R: 4.1kg/mm=230lb/in. 1"

All I know is that the trd springs work very well with konis. Would be interested to see how they work with Billstien b6's though. teins dont look like they are progressive either.
