Engine Conversion Specialists - Any experiences??

Post by Firestick »

Toying with the idea of getting an engine transplant. :-k

Not sure whether it would be the Camry V6 or the 3s gte but at the moment I'm more interested in the turbo.

Can anyone recommend any companies who are able to do this, any experiences on the best engine and of course prices.

Thanks in advance. :thumleft:

You should head over to TwoBrutal: forums.twobrutal.com

Otherwise Paul Woods will be along soon - he runs Wood Sport and is the man you need to talk to...

agreed, but i wouldn't even borther with the V6, a rev1 turbo would pump it \:D/

get the turbo, you won't regret it.

Why not come along to the Revivals rolling road day? There will be both Turbo'd and V6'd mk1s there :thumleft:

How bout rover V8. They're lighter than most 4 cylinder engine cos they're all aluminium and you get plenty of tunable grunt. Also i've measured  it'll just fit . Some guy in america has put a north star V8 in a mk1 but I think rover would be better.

And vs a V6

Best i've run so far is 13.5 but that was at crail, if it was a proper drag strip you could expect to knock 1/2 a sec off that

I'll pip in my opinion about the engine choices.

Anything other than the 3sgte (or 3sge) or the v6 engines (3vz and 1mz) will likely be a considerably more expensive conversion. The v6 is slightly more costly in labour and bits.

In ideal conditions, performance wise the 3sgte is the quicker of the 2 in standard guise but has a smaller powerband overall.

On the road I'd guess there's almost nothing in it. Driving the turbo will feel quicker due to the thump of torque as the turbo spools. But I'd bet the linear power of the v6 allows for greater control in the corners.

Noise wise, the v6 howl wins it for me but it depends you might prefer a turbo dump.

agreed, crail is a pain coz it's on a slight hill, could prob knock a bit more off than half a sec, run times can be poor depending on the wind.

If your thinking 3sge you might as well buy a 4AGZE which will fit straight in. Add an exhaust and a bigger crank pulley and you'll have a quicker car than if you spent more putting 3sge in.
