[Mk2] [NA] Sluggish mid range...

Post by ricomr2 »

My rev2 feels like its down on power in the mid range but pulls fine off the line and when the TVIS comes in around 5k.
Anyone have an suggestions or had similar problems?
Its not been serviced for a while so that's obviously going to be the first job I do.

I hope not but is it since youve fitted your de cat? I`m presuming you have it fitted already. Dan :|

Nah, its been since before the de-cat.
The de-cat has improved the power but its still not quite right.

I don't know the process for checking it.
Can you point me in the direction of a guide?

Pretty easy, open the engine bay, and you will see a diagnostic port on the drivers side near the boot. Open it up and put a paper clip to connect te1 and e1. put the ignition on but dont start engine, and the engine light will flash. If it flashes 2 times every second then there is no codes, otherwise it will flash for the code number. i.e flash flash (pause) flash, would be code 21..

No codes showing up, just a constant steady flashing which I'm guessing was about 2 every second.

May just be that the car needs a good service so I'll get on that at the weekend.

Yeah worth starting with usual, plugs, dizzy cap, air filter etc.

Reset the ECU when the car is warmed up (pull the EFI and ECU fuses in engine bay for 2 mins), then go out and give it a thrash, see if its any better.

Plugs done today, Its got a K&N on it which is quite clean so no need to change that and I'll order a cap and rotor arm at the weekend.

Has it recently had the cambelt changed? I had mine done 2 weeks ago and when it was first done I took it out for a spin and it was sluggish and the acceleration wasnt as it was before, I took it back and the timing was out 3 degree`s and now its back to normal if not better. Hope you get it sorted mate

Yeah I'm thinking the timing may be out slightly. Gonna get the belt done asap.
