[Mk2] [Turbo] REV3 VSV / boost limts?

I've recently bought a REV3 fitted out with a HKS intake, custom made stainless exhaust and a Greddy boost guage. Don't know if theres a dowpipe fitted, but it's stock boost control.

I get to 0.7/0.9 bar really quickly when the engine bucks so I assume I am hitting the boost limit for a rev3 and the ecu is regulating the vsv when this happens??

If so do i have to disable the vsv by plugging the pipe to it and adding some form of boost control?

The stock VSV only allows around 0.9 to 1bar depending on exhaust mods etc, shouldnt cause any bucking though.

Easyest way to disable the VSV is by getting the car on a ramp and look underneath the no 4 inlet, theres a electrical plug with vac lines going into it, just unplug and thats it sorted, and easy to put back to stock.

You will then need some sort of boost controller or it will run at actuator pressure that is about 0.7bar. Fuel cut on a rev 3 is at around 18.5psi (near enough 1.3bar)


Does it buck around 5000rpm? If so, you may need to gap your plugs down a bit.

Yes around 5000 rpm but the boost guage is always reading 0.9 bar, the engine holds back similar to hitting the rev limiter.

I am not sure if I can get at the VSV plug this weekend or fix in an MBC in time so as a test I will disconnect the hose from the actuator to the vsv and plug it.

If i let the actuator then vent to air I should be able to boost beyond 0.9 bar up to 1.3 bar fuel cut max? - just for time being to see if i have boost cut or some other fault..???

turn the ignition on, but dont start the engine. open the engine bay, and open the diag port. put a paperclip between TE1 and E01 I think, then it will flash any codes on the dash with the engine light.
