I bought this from Ben F last month, with the view to having some mk1 fun until I found another SC.
Well I've found one and just don't have the space for three cars!! Its been well enjoyed by Ben and his family for about four years - he has serviced it extremely well in that time, building on the previous owner Nick Challoner. In recent times Ben rebuilt the top end after the HG failed, with toyota gasket, and the clutch was replaced around the same time - its really hasn't wanted for anything between Ben & Nick over the past decade with a huge file of history inc the service book which goes upto the mid-nineties. Bodywise it is solid but in has dents
& scratches over most panels, yet the car is very solid and if one chose to restore the car is well worth the effort. Its in the rare sherwood toning
(two-tone emerald-green over gold metalic) and has a very original and undamaged interior aside from the additional door speakers that Nick had fitted! Yet probably not important if the next owner intends to use it as an occassional trackday car like Ben did. Good points:
- excellent mechanically (drove it from essex to north wales recently no issues)- rare sherwood toning colour scheme - magnex stainless exhaust- JR air filter- recent top end rebuild roughly 7000 miles ago inc timing belt etc- new battery a few months ago- needs nothign in the near future- full closure alarm CAT 1 - (bill for £500 in 2000 for this alongwith the important certificate)- new clutch around the same time as top end rebuild- droves without fault, handles superbly!!- well maintained - MOT'ed until mid-Sept 2009- Taxed until end of April 2009Not so good:
- as said its tatty on the outside, although its solid underneath and the rust on the rear arches is limited to the outers the innerarches are fine making an easy repair with the mk1 club arch repair panels. - its in north wales!!I paid
£500 for the car last month, happy to let it go for any reasonable offer over £400. It is Taxed and Mot'ed a long time, and is a good opportunity to own a mechanically very good mk1 with the potential for some further trackday fun or an easy resto project.
