My Text Check

Post by Ben »

Just used this for a car I was thinking of buying - text the reg to 83600 and you get a resullt within seconds.
Turns out the car was a Cat C write-off :pale:
Definately worth the 3 quid it cost me to save a 50-mile round trip!

Dont let Cat C put you off, it could have been something like dented front wing which could have written the car off.
If you can't see the angle, you're in trouble.

Agree

A mate got a Cat C FTO MIVEC in the summer.... the damage a crack in the front bumper, he did nothing to it other than VOSA inspection and MOT and has been driving it since!

Hmm... hadn't thought of it like that. It says it passed the VIC test about a month ago. What does that entail? I'm slightly wary of a car that's 10 years old, had 3 owners, but only done 39k :-k
Have a look - what do you think?

I personally would avoid a car where the seller has not declared its a repaired insurance writeoff. Makes you wonder what else they havent told you.....

BTW I always thought CAT D was bodywork but CAT C was more serious ie. structural/susepnsion etc so woul;d deffo avoid if CAT C

Sold anyway!

Categories Of Write-Off
An explanation of the categories of write-off are listed below:

Category A - A vehicle which should have been totally crushed, including all its spare parts.
Category B - A vehicle from which spare parts may be salvaged, but the bodyshell should have been crushed and the car should never return to the road.
Category C - An extensively damaged vehicle which the insurer has decided not to repair, but which could be repaired and returned to the road.
Category D - A damaged vehicle which the insurer has decided not to repair, but which could be repaired and returned to the road.
Category F - A vehicle damaged by fire, which the insurer has decided not to repair.
Theft - These vehicles have not been recovered and ownership rests with the insurer who made the total loss payment. They are able to repossess the car as soon as it is identified, even if it has been bought innocently.

My car was a CAT C, it needed a front wing. On Mk1's most accidents are CAT C or D as to have them repaired it costs more than the value of the car :thumleft:
