[Mk2] [Turbo] Gen III PowerFC Users

Post by >PETE< »

Hey Guys,

Having some problems with my idle on a gen III powerfc. The car is a Gen II 3SGTE converted to a Gen III 3SGTE. I bought a Gen III MR2 engine loom so all the wires should be 100% correct there. I've used all Gen III Sensors and parts from the engine, so that rules out ignitor etc. (I've taken it right up to redline without any ign probs)

1. What is the ACR on the commander in the sensors screen. Does it always come on when the A/C or A/C Econ mode are switched on?

2. I'm having issues with the Power FC reporting ELD (Electrical Loda) always being on. I've unplugged almost everything and it is always on, hence its running on the ELD Idling settings, but I think it also affects the run in procedure. Does anyone know what pin actually controls the ELD on the powerfc?

I though it may have been to do with the defog electrical system. (for the rear window) I.e when switched on, ELD turns on and the idle kicks up to compensate for the power drain. I just need someone to confirm this is how it works? I think I may have a faulty unit....I sure hope not!

Thanks!

was it a new or used powerfc

if it has been used on another car it will need to re-learn the idle settings for your car
this involves re-setting it and then starting the car with no electrical load letting it run for 10 mins ,then switch on everything electrical plus a/c then let it idle for another 10 mins

just a thought

It was a new Powerfc.

The problem is, I can't get it to do the re-learn procedure because the ELD switch on the powerfc won't go away, so it thinks its always on high electrical load.

I want to know how to change this. I've tried unplugging the Defogger system from the ecu but it changed nothing.

Any other idea's people's?

Any help is much appreciated!

Also, do the radiator fans on the Gen III get controlled via the ECU? Because on the Gen II its got its own controller for controlling this. would having this disconnected from the ecu affect the ELD? Jut a thought

i repinned a gen1 to gen3 spec and everything worked fine so i wouldn't imagine there are too many differences in that curcuit

just a thought
when you changed your harness did you change the chassis harness as well as that is different on gen3 aswell

i have just checked my diagrams and the els (electrical load sense) pin on the ecu is on the same pin on gen1.2.and 3 so it should work ok

fyi the els pin is on the top row of the 22pin connector on the right side of the ecu
it is 1 pin from the right it (should) be a black wire inbetween a red wire and a white wire with a red trace

Well, I took my powerfc and plugged it into a mates geniune gen III MR2 and the ECU worked perfectly. When he switched the defogger on, ELD switched on, when he turned the defogger off, the ELD light switched off.

Thi shows the ECU is running properly (Phew!)

I've checked the ELD pinout on my wiring and it is correct. Tested it, when its switched off I got 0V, when I turn the defogger on I get a 12v signal on the wire. Its pined out to the correct spot in the plug and this hasn't changed when I did the conversion. So I know this isn't causing the problem.

The Alternator itself has a 3 wire plug going into it. I did have to re-pin this so I could connect the Gen III engine loom to a Gen II Alernator. If I re-pinned this incorrectly would this cause ELD to show up on the ECU?
I am getting 14V when running the engine so the alternator is definatley generating power. Does anyone know what the 3 wires do, or where they go?

Cheers.

As a side note, I have a Gen III Engine loom connected up to a Gen II body loom.

From above

Did you do this? FPR, PSCT, PS, ABS and ECO need re-pinning.

Correct. I re-pinned all of these pins. They all seem to be working too.

Pin 1 (L) - Charge warning light in the instrument cluster
Pin 2 (IG) - IG1 of the ignition switch via 10A fuse
Pin 3 (S) - To the battery main fusible link via 7.5A fuse
