Sbits = Super Bits !!

Post by Sideways Si »

Hi to all fellow Imoc members.

I'd like to share with you my recent experiance of what I would consider the most professional and helpful of MR2 Specialists i've come across so far.

Back in the summer of this year I took the big decision of going for a full rebuild

and Engine /Turbo/ cooling/ ...

My friend was already on the task of the engine build,
but what we needed someone to supply us with a full garrett Gtr turbo kit.

Originally my power goals were around 400 to 450bhp..
But as you know once that you own an MR2 Turbo, those goals
never stay the same for too long..

It was a bit negligent of me at the time, and didn't write a thread in oct, on how helpful Peter @ Sbits was in sourcing my Turbo Kit..

He was very helpful, I'd been very pushed for time for an event, and wanted a re-routed downpipe
which peter didn't have in stock, and ATS were being very slow
in despatching any parts.

Peter took my ATS Dp to exhaust UK in leeds. And had them tackle the job of custom fabricating one..
AND a built-in flexi join.. They did a fantastic job of it..

When my GT35R kit arrived at my engine builder. He didn't have much to worry about as peter has already taken the trouble to dummy build it on an engine before
sending it all out..!!!! And taken into consideration the the distance between the pipe to bulkhead..

After the build was finished we took it to surrey RR for ryan to map it,
All went well and produced 455bhp with 1.4 bar boost...
1.4bar mainly because my car simply

couldn't supply enough fuel for any more..

What now,
"If there's something weird"
"and it don't look good"
"Who you gonna call!!"

Peter @ Sbits

We discussed my fuel requirements and peter knew exactly what was required, he'd already custom designed his own twin pump project.

Once I got the call from peter that he had sourced all the parts we needed, I was over the moon..

Consisting mainly of:

1000CC injectors
HKS Fuel Rail
Aeromotive Fuel pressure Regulator
LArge Fuel filter
Two in-tank Walbro Fuel Pumps.
And a shed load of goodridge hoses and unions..
and not forgetting the changing of the wiring loom plugs.

Forward to present day. For two long days peter and his apprentice spent on there backs and bent over the engine bay of my car fitting the Twin pump kit..

LOTS had to be removed and several obstacles had to be overcome which peter managed without any problems..

To sum up without turning this thread into a huge essay which people might get bored of reading right the way through..

I will always go back to peter on the 500mile round trip to take on any custom work in the future..

I'd also like to thank carol for her hospitality over the weekend.

I could write so much more about the whole weekend which would all be very positive,
Including the saga of breaking down on the M1 becuase my clutch master cylinder had failed..
And which peter also assured me that he would sort out when I got the car there..(the Rac story is for another thread I think).
Which he did sort out for me..

But I think I've said enough to give Peter a huge thumbs up for last weekend..

Look forward to running 2 BAr boost soon and getting near that 600Bhp figure..
just need a clutch to cope with it though. lol

Thankyou very much for everything

Simon

Simon.

Thanks for the write up and positive feedback. It sure was a long weekend!

To answer a few questions i've been asked.... a couple of pics of the setup..

Image

Power to the pumps is via 30A cable, routed to a front bonnet mounted fused relay. The original fuel pump wire has been extended and now controls the relay, ensuring any voltage drop to the pumps is absolutely minimal.

Image

Injectors are Delphi 1000cc top feeds, flow matched and spray pattern matched.

Fuel rail has been plumbed as a deadhead rail, with the regulator before the rail, and one end of the rail capped off. (Pic does not show the regulator fully plumbed in).

All hoses are Goodridge 200 series with reusable Goodridge unions.

Cost? Expensive
