Hello from Germany

Post by PeterRST »

Hey guys,

I'm so happy I've finally found such a good MR2 website. My name's Peter, I'm 23 and I live in Southern Germany. Actually I've been an MR2 owner for 3 years now but I never really got to drive it as it's just sitting in my garage with a few minor things to sort. And I've been too busy with my Escort RS Turbo.

Anyways, early september I visited a few mates in Southampton UK and the amount of MR2s I saw was mind-blowing (some of their owners might even be members here?). Over here in Germany you're lucky if you can spot one every few weeks. There I saw several an hour! Lots of them were tasty Turbos, too, the kind of MR2 Toyota never officially brought to Germany. :P

Long story cut short: I'm very determined now to finish my MR2 in time for next summer. It's a 1991 GT T-Bar NA, which was the only model available here. No PAS, no airbags but at least anti-lock brakes (something UK Rev1's didnt have?).

I'll try to dig a few pictures out and post them up here later on.

That's pretty much all for now!

Cheers
Peter

Hey Peter and welcome to the site. Wondering whether your german or an englishman abroad by the way?
I would say welcome to 2 ownership but after three yrs in a garage!!! Mind you as an ex XR3 driver I understand the love of the RS.
You're right about the UK cars not getting ABS, at least mine doesn't have it but then it is one of the very first. I'm not sure if it applies to all UK rev1s. Anyway nice looking car you have. Do you have any plans regarding modding or you leaving it standard and what drew you to the site?

Hi there,

I'm German and have always been. I'm just a general fan of the UK. I also think UK car forums are more interesting than their german equivalents since there's more freedom in terms of modding. Over here everything's controlled and monitored by the TÜV and you can get fined by the police for not having documents for something as negliglible as an aftermarket steering wheel.

I'm pretty much planning on leaving my car standard. Not a big fan of the "fast and furious" look since I have to look at too many bad attempts (usually in form of a 1.2 Vauxhall/Opel Corsa) everyday on the road. I much prefer what I'd call the "track car look". Therefore I'll probably get a set of new wheels as the ones on there now look pretty battered (ex-owners fault, not mine ). Other than that I'm always open for a Turbo conversion should the right opportunity in form of a donor car arise. ;)

I'm also a member over at Passionford and since there are quite a few MR2 owners around there, the link to this forum comes up from time to time. ;)

Oh hello there! (Waves).

Nice to meet international members - the car looks pretty tidy. If you're going for a good track set up I'd say 16s max, but that's my opinion.

Yeah, that's what I'm on now. Handles very well, no tramlining, etc.
