SNES - Super Mario Kart
Got my old SNES out the othernight for Drunken Mario Kart racing, it made me think has there been a racing game with as much
"feel" as Mario Kart?

Re: SNES - Super Mario Kart
the new mario kart is meant to be pretty sweet.

not sure if its as good as the classic tho.

Re: SNES - Super Mario Kart
Its not
Re: SNES - Super Mario Kart
Feel? I'd argue Forza 2.
Fun? Not a chance.
Replayability? Nope, nothing to touch it.

Quality, quality game.
Funny you should mention this really, I was only thinking the other day that a lot of younger gamers will never have played this, and will think of the later
(much more rubbish) versions when you mention Mario Kart to them.

Re: SNES - Super Mario Kart
mario kart ds is ace, has tracks from the snes, 64 and gamecube, classic

Re: SNES - Super Mario Kart
But even the DS version didn't drive the same as the original, and the 64 and GC versions were utter poo.
*EDIT* Ah, read your post wrong, but I'm still correct

I've yet to try the Wii version, but I just know it's not going to feel right.

They'll say the graphics are crap and this is all that matters so the new version wins all the time.

Re: SNES - Super Mario Kart
I loved the original game
- just pure fun, one of the best.

I used to enter the
"Official Nintendo Magazine" competitions for mario kart snes and set an awesome record on the first ghost level
- 1:01 secs in time trial
.
Won soooooooo much stuff when I did that
- about 40 games
.
Donky kong was by far the best character

Kart 64 was easier to control but placed too much in the look of the game
- lost a bit of its charm I thought.
You had to be really good in the original to be good with the heavier characters but not in this one

Double dash was ok, more playable than 64 every step of the way and looked waaaaaaaaaaay better

.
.
.and onto Wii Kart.
I love it
.
Think the bikes ruin it too much cos it is just too easy when certain bikes appear
but overall the best bar the original.

Chris
Mr Rapey Banana WILL get you.
.
.oh yes!

Re: SNES - Super Mario Kart
Yeah, I think what makes the original is the control, the sounds, the slides, where the cars grip the correction needed, they
"feel" lik real Karts.
Because of this it doesn't need great graphics or anything else.
I posted the question as i've had about an 8 year break from playing any computer games and wondered if it had been topped yet.
1992 I think it says on the startup screen,.
.
thats a log time to not be bettered.

So very sad, yet so very true.

That

I remember winning a Mario Kart competition at a school fete many years ago, didn't get a time anything like that though.

Re: SNES - Super Mario Kart
Mario Kart on the Wii is awesome, its worth getting a Wii just for this game.
Not a fan of the bikes but the multiplayer is second to none.

Re: SNES - Super Mario Kart
Not really, but Mode 7 was still responsible for same amazing stuff.
Pilotwings, F-Zero, Bowser floating in and out of the screen at the end of SMW.

.
Ah, those were t'days.
