[Mk2] [Turbo] strange occurance with my tyres on my freshly imported tubby

Post by jdbecks »

Whilst preparing my car for regristration in the UK, I needed to change my front two tyres,

when the mobile tyre fitter came, he said there was foam inside the front tyres, going round the tyre, the guy said he had never seen anything like it before, and he also said how clean the tyres were inside, and said the foam looked like it had been done properly and not a strange modification,

I cant remember the make of tyre, but why would it have foam inside?
they were not running on foam as a subsitute for air, just two foam strips down the centre

also the wheels are staggered, volk te37s, 8.1/2" and 7.1/2" on a 17" wheel with 205's on the fronts and 225's on the rears, all the tyres have been changed now, why that small of tyres on the rims?

Could have repaired a puncher using that foam s**t?

What ever remove them and buy new tyres just to be sure.
Running: 313.8BHP @ fly and 285lb torque on 1.15bar.

Nice wheels, shame they are not 16" :oldtongue:

205 & 225 are good sizes for the MR2, if you had to replace them you could have happily gone 215/235 if you wanted, thats what my old 17"'s had on them and they were 7.5 on both ends. I've 7" front an 8" rears now and have 205 / 225, much better suited to the car.

i think its like a run flat system.
made use of by the wheel manu8facturer and not the tyre place basically it means that if the tyre runs flat then it wont run on the rim.

at least thats what it is if thats what i think it is.

my boss had this on his lamborghini diablo.
its like a thick, quite hard/dense foam running around the inside of the rim about 3 inches across.

only seems to get onto expensive rims.

narrow tyres on wide rims reduces side wall deflection therefore slip angles so will improve performance
