[Mk2] [Generic] Got my Mr2 Detailed

Post by RANDOMr2 »

As the title says.....I got my mr2 detailed today. It needing doing badly. I claybared the car in May 07 but since then it was a clean and shammy when it got dirty and a polish when the mood took me or for a show....

Since getting the Border bumper sprayed up the rest of the car looked...well...dark grey so someone I know took his collection of cleaning products and rotary polishing machines to it today 8-[

I have to say, the results are astounding :thumleft:

See here for a full run-down of what he did:

Cheers. I well happy with the way it turned out. The paintwork was so dodgy I didnt think he'd get as good a results as he did so fair play. Pretty much every panel on my car has been resprayed at least once in it's life :?

I took some photos a few hours afterwards.

Top job there fella :thumleft: What car polisher have you got by the way :?: I've been looking at getting one, but I've heard horror stories of the buffer wearing through & damaging the paintwork. I've so far not gone out & bought one & just polished my cars by hand.

Any recommendations :?:

I didnt do the work bud. I guy Who goes by the name of Prime Shine did it for me.

And yes, you're right to be worried about burning through the paint as it can happen easily if the paint is soft or you use the wrong pad  If you look through the photos on the top link he shows one of the pads I think that he used on the bonnet and it had gone black which is a sure sign of a bit of a shoddy respray at some point [-(

with regards to shoddy respray bit  it doesnt actually mean that at all ! it just means where your car has had paintwork its most likely had a different paint method ! the panels that were polished and the buffing mop didnt turn black means those panels were painted in base coat and laquer . the panels that left black on the buffing mop was a 1 coat system . in other words no laquer was applied as the 1 coat paint didnt need laquer to make it shine . when detailing a car that has different paint systems applied to it special care has to be taken so not to burn a paint surface. a paint finish with laquer is 20 times more durable than one without . i have found when i have done this in the past i use a less harsh buffing mop for non laquer surfaces and by reducing the speed of the buffing machine then prevents burn through on paint.

great job done :thumleft:

sorry laughed when i saw this the bloke who done this work used a porter cable a orbit polish the results would of been 50 tims better if he used a real roatry polisher .

to the question above hand polishing a car can never look as good as a machine a good correction job would take 10 hours costing about 240 pounds if your lucky , the main differnts is how it looks in the sun ie the little swirl marks you only see in the sun or at a petrol station with bright lights. you can buy a PC(portercable) which is safe for anyone to use you cant burn the pain it doesnt make high heat on your paint which could burn and look very bad these are all impotered from usa . the other is to use a rotary which u must be trained to use or it will look worse than when u started

http://www.miracledetail.co.uk/ the best bloke at using a rotary watch the video .
