PS3 Online gaming

Post by Pete »

Right folks,

I decided to treat myself and bought a PS3 :lover: . I have bought PES2008 for it, and have had a few games online which is a right laugh :thumleft: . It did slow down a couple of times, but nothing too serious.

Can anyone recommend any other decent games to play online? I know that i'll probably pick up GRID soon, but have been away from the games scene for a while so not sure what's out there worth trying.

Also, what kind of connection is everyone else using to play games online? Will my 2GB virgin connection suffice for most games?

What else do I need to get the most out of my PS? (leave it out Xbox fanboys :oldtongue: ).

Cheers
Pete

2gb cable is plenty - it's all about ping once you get past a 512mbps connection, but that'll probably be good too, a friend of mine has cable and his connection always outperforms my ADSL when it's a like-for-like connection package (well, when our connection packages are the same, BT/Virgin seem to chop and change speeds etc all of the time to compete with one another)
Grid is great, GTA4 is quite a good online game (and an awesome single player one!)

Pick up a copy of Drake's Fortune from eBay too, it's like Tomb Raider but faster paced, not multiplayer though.
What else do I need to get the most out of my PS?
Get on PSN and access the online store, hundreds of demos to download, find something you like.

I still haven't played GTA4 online, having said that I haven't used the system much at all yet, it was an impulse buy when I went to buy milk.

Yaaaaay!!!

I'm addicted to this one.

Have 11 games for mine but Unchartered, The Orange Box & Hot Shots World Tour are my other most played.

Call Of Duty 4 - the only game I've ever bothered with online - SO worth it.

18 player team death match or domination games own!

COD4 online is the ONLY thing my ps3 see's. Even gta4 was boring after 30 minutes compared to COD4.

Warhawk I just can't get into, FIFA is a good laugh online (no point if you've got PES though)

Call Of Duty seems to be the most popular one. It get's addictive when you start ranking up. You can complete the game in a few days but the online play will keep you busy for months!

Well, thanks to some of the recommendations here, I have managed to waste a significant portion of my weekend

Bought it yesterday, absolutely love it :thumleft: Took a few games to get used to the different levels, but it's just so much fun in the team death match mode. Maybe we'll have enough people for an IMOC DM?

On my list to pick up next. Had a quick look at it, seems my sort of thing too.

Registered on Saturday and have a couple of demos to try out this week. Downloaded GRID, seems like it should be a great game.

I will definately be getting the Orange Box at sometime soon, loved HL2 on the PS2.

Very happy with the PS3 so far.

:thumleft: Glad you like it, All my COD4 owning friends won't touch it with a barge poll but it is soooo much fun (32 player DM in a confined section of a map  ) and i keep telling them not to knock it until they've tried it but i think it's the fact that that they don't want to start from scratch on another game going through the ranks. It seems you stick to the one know, I'm not one bit interested in COD4 online, Played it on the 360 and it didn't really grab me (i prefer the abilty of being able to jump into jeeps/tanks/planes at any time) but the 1 player side of it i really got into and will no doubt purchase it in the future to go through this. Annoyingly in Warhawk i'm pathetic when i comes to using the sniper rifle but in COD4 i can pick off mates for fun :-k

Whats your PSN id:? Might have you a game of PES2008 sometime :)

I know what you mean, most of my mates have one style of game/platform and stick to it. I'm getting better at warhawk, just can't get the grasp of the planes yet.

My PSN id is initialP, feel free to add me for a game of PES. It would be good to play someone who doesn't switch their console off if they start losing

Although I love this game I feel bad company is better as you can do all the same as warhawk ie buggys tanks helis and also you can blow the cr@p outta everything with 80% enviroment destruction

Cool, look forward to it. I'm still pretty rubbish at it, but can't put it down yet :D

I might give Bad company a try on demo if it's in the PSN shop.
