There was a good deal in Game a fortnight ago.

£299 got you a PS3, 2 games, and an extra sony controller. Seemed like a good deal to me so I bought one.

I am not going to get into the argument of 360 vs PS3 as its pointless. I will say the PS3 is better, all my mates have 360's and disagree. Mind you only one out of 5 hasnt broken down in the past 18 months. None of them support HD as standard, they dont play blu-ray and the graphics arent quite as good.

Given another year the PS3 will wipe the floor with the Xbox in terms of game availability, size and graphics, its going to because its more powerful and the blu-ray capability gives you 50Gb to play with instead of 8Gb... As someone else said, the PS3 is a year behind the xbox in terms of games and development, but then it was the same with the PS2 when that came out too.

If memory serves me correctly there are over 100 PS3 games out now. I only bought one for the driving, RPG and fighting games and blu-ray DVD. I use my PC for shooting games (Crysis etc) as I dont like playing them on PC.

it helps to read the thread before posting cos some of your points have already been covered :-P

the 360 is the only console that actually comes boxed with a HD cable so i dont kno where you get the idea its not HD as standard?

Because it wasn't HD as standard from the outset. Or rather, wasn't easily HD Ready, didn't have HDMI. People tend to stick with whatever the first impression kit makes is - so PS3 = expensive (because it was £425 when launched, despite that coming with an "HD" drive, WiFi and Hard Disc as standard - speccing up a 360 at the time of PS3 launch would result in a system at roughly the same cost, with a much smaller HD, the need to use two plugs/external drive for HDef media, no card reader (FWIW)), Xbox 360 = "not HD", "Noisy", "Unreliable".

Of course, for all the bleating about "true" HD, most people will still be plugging them into 720p sets with "HDMI support", rather than true HD panels.

 Now here really is a man with his facts completely wrong!

Where do all you PS3 fanboys get the graphics thing from!?? Compare every game thats on 360 and PS3...360 looks better..EVERY TIME.

So now the Blue-ray lets you play games.... :-k   :clown:

Better?

I wouldn't say that. The rendering engines are usually ported, the output resolution is the same, and the framerates are pretty evenly matched. This isn't like SNES vs. MegaDrive or NES vs. Master System.

I think the most damning thing is that the games on each are practically identical - it's why I choose platform based on genre and which controller I'd prefer to use. The reason why BD, HD, Media and connectivity come into the argument is because there's really nothing in it between the machines for the actual game you get.

Compare these:

Madden 2007, Need for Speed Carbon, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, NBA 2K7, Fight Night Round 3 etc etc

FEAR, Half-life2 and COD3 look terrible on the PS3.

NFS Carbon looked almost identical on them - but the PS3 controller is horrid. You think that's bad, you should try the Wii version!

The latter three - certainly COD3 and Half-Life - were really badly done ports IIRC. I'm sure the COD3 developers were quoted as whining about their inability to port the game engine correctly.

I didnt say that. I said given time the size of game and possibilities on the PS3 will outstrip the 360 because of the higher storage space available on a blu-ray disc. Common sense tells you that much.

Whatever happened to civilised discussion? No need to get all personal. I'm not a fanboy by any means. I bought a PS3 based on the technical merits of the system over the other consoles available on the market. Like I said, all my mates have 360's so it would have mad emore sense for me to buy one of those, but having used them, and looked at the quality and features for the money they arent worth it in my opinion.

Hmm, 4 hours to install a 50gb game. Then you'll be fed up with the game and the crappy controller in no time :thumleft:

Newer 360's have HDMI and apparently dont break down with the RROD.

Can be had for less than 200 quid now too :thumleft:

So you bought a games console because it was technically more powerful.....but far more expensive and no games on it.....and all your mates had 360's that you could play with them online....?? :-k

Umm imo the 360 controller is horrible?

PS3 may be cheap looking but its light and easier to use by far, cant complain if its simple. The only thing I thought was good from the controller was the ability to have a headset attached to it.

PS3 vs 360 graphics....for COD3...

http://uk.gamespot.com/features/6162742/p-2.html

I would admit the PS3 looks a stint better for light in terms of graphics for the other games too but only just...its almost identical for some games to be honest.

Few of my 360 mates have recently converted to PS3...some have done it for GT5p and other games.

Year and half ago I would have said 360 was far better to own than PS3. This year its neck a neck with Wii in the lead by loads, sales have even proved than 360 have dropped and PS3 on the rise, I would favour a PS3 now at the moment. Who knows...give it another year or 2 and things could change, but theres nothing on the 360 Elite which really appeals to me other than the cheap games.

I bought my PS3 because of Sony-exclusive titles...plus I played a lot of 360 in the past and never enjoyed any titles exclusive to 360. 360's fault more and dont look as nice as well...I could never adapt to 360 controller....ever tried playing Pro Evo on it? lol its poo!!

Btw Matt did u want to buy my bro's 360? I know you were after one.

Once again crappy ports are being blamed for yes sub-standard versions on the PS3 compared to the 360 versions.

(and Half Life 2 has been patched now) :oldtongue:

I've said it before but only the software developers who can be bothered to write things from the ground up on the PS3 and who have the time and patience to extract the best from it's "challenging" hardware will have games that shine above the rest.

A lot of developers have compained that the PS3 IS difficult to work with and perhaps that's why it's suffering with a lot of ports at the moment?

Naughty Dog (Unchartered) have said the PS3 is a more capable machine thanks to the cell and if they we're to write that game to the 360 it would have to be cut down as they don't think the 360's processing power would be enough? True or a one sided statement because they're under Sony's wing.

Time will tell if the PS3 is the more capable machine once the programmers get to know the hardware better but i do think the flood of 360 exclusives/debut releases will slow down next year. Prediction's on software sales for later this year say PS3 will outsell the 360. Piracy on the 360 playing a big part? but if this is the case will the 360 stay as the lead development platform or will the software companies start releasing the games first on the unhacked platform for an initial better return?

We'll just have to wait and see :)

ps. One pi$$ed off PS3 owner because Bioshock has been canned and that is bloody awesome (so are PRG4 and Crackdown)

andy there was no point writing that because thai and sam etc are just gonna so "it still has no games NOW" and "they're not crappy ports ye old great game trailers said so"
but like i said a few pages back, EA titles are ALWAYS gonna be sloppy on the ps3 because EA hate working on them so they just give out crappy ports that lag and have bad frame rate issues.
take call of duty 4 it was developed for the 360 pc AND ps3 seperatly and it looks identical on all of them. it looks better on ps3 in places but better on 360 in places.
games like GT5 are 5x more graphically stunning then forza. uncharted is far better looking then assasins creed.
but people are gonna say "but it dont have gears, bio shock or halo" nope it may not have but it does have 1 thing. METAL GEAR SOLID 4 mwhahahahaha *slams little hammer, case closed :)

sony are slowly playing catch-up (or just straight copying) the xbox anyway so that alone tells me i play the best console at the moment.

Sam when you proclaimed on here that you had received your insurance money the first thing you done was run out and buy a ps3! Now you may argue that it was because you wanted a blu ray player but the truth is you could have had a standalone player for the same price if not cheaper.

Whats more pathetic?

Slagging off a console?

Or

Slagging off a console then running out and spending £300+ of your money on one?????????

Tbh i couldn't give a toss either way but i think you and Matt are hypocrites.

I will say at the moment there are cheap ps3 games avail now, you can pick them up in gamestation new for £20.
