One of the biggest rules in any insurance is you MUST absolutely MUST disclose all facts about the insured item/person.

Would you get health insurance and neglect to metion you had a heart problem?

Would you get home owners insurance and neglect to tell them you have a valuable peice of property?

If you did neglect to mention the things above would you then expect an insurer to pay for them in the event of a loss?

As above, your premium refects the value/risk insured the higher the value and/or the risk being taken by the insurer the more they will rightfully charge.

I told Sky about all my mods right down to the crystal front lights, kenwood stereo and EL dials and my premium of aprox £800 IMO was very fair.

That couldn't be further from the truth... #-o

Lucky I had all mods declared as someone crashed into me. A day later I have a guy from the other persons insurance co. come round to look at my car to check over it to see a) what damage had been done and b) it is all exactly as insured.

Simply if you so much as have a simple mod like a dump valve on there that wasn't insured you ARE screwed. They will chuck the case out cancel your insurance take your money & in worse case senario take you to court for insurance fraud (although highly unlikely).

So yes insurance is important for YOU but for others around you. The post about killing someone sadly is a very valid point.

Someone drove into me last year in my MR2. All I had to do was get a quote from a bodyshop, send it to their insurers, and they decided whether to repair or write-off. They decided to repair, it got picked up by an approved garage, repaired, and delivered back again. Job done. So don't quite know what your on about... Don't state facts unless you know 100% you are talking the truth.

Not really. It just shows the inconsistency already highlighted between insurers. The first poster was speaking from his own personal experience (not hearsay), as was the second. They had different experiences; proves very little.

FWIW, I do sympathise with a lot of the comments re the hoops we have to jump through just to get a policy on a modded car. Unfortunately in this day & age the personal service and knowledgable staff you could (relatively speaking) take for granted at insurers/brokers are in a decline and they want to automate & standardise as much as possible - my own employers being no exception =;. Unfortunately our needs are little more than an irritation to most unless they can see an angle.

It really does seem to be luck of the draw how closely they look into any claim, when my wife had her bag & car keys stolen we claimed to have the locks replaced & they wanted to send an assessor for that - even though there was no damage to the car!

For what it's worth, it looks like premiums are going to rise again anyway:

Thats for that :-k

I do know the facts as it happened to me  Maybe what I did neglect to say was that each insurer is different. The reason why this happened to me was I chose to use my own repairer.

No need to get personal mate, see you at the Shows :eye: :thumleft:

my company car was crashed into whilst parked causing £3.5k worth of damaged.

No inspector came, just took it to the garage and they repaired it.
