Do you know if there's any other differences in the 2 engines?

The main differences are that they went from the Motronic V1.2 ECUs to 1.7, nothing is interchangeable electric wise as they use a different harness and DME's

Mechanically, I don't think there is that much different though.

The project kicked off today with the start of the adapter plate making, this is what 25mm thick 400 x 400 alloy looks like....



I marked the centre of where the crank is going to be...



On the V12 there are two raised areas on the back of the engine, one is the crank oil seal housing and the other is a water jacket blanking plate, i have removed the water jacket plate and oil seal housing in this pic...



The plan is to cut a hole where the crank seal housing sits...



Then we will make the adapter plate do the job of the coolant cover plate, so it has dual roles, this will just mean drilling through the cover plate to get the position right...



For now though i'll be sending the plate down to Adam to have the basic holes cut in it.

Looking and sounding good! Started stripping my engine down today only to find a snapped head bolt! Head are coming off tomorrow and will soon be send away for pressure testing. this engine has seen better days! Looks like it hasnt been used for a couple of years! Should have the material to make the plates for the manual throttle bodies soon too! This is fun! Never worked on anything so BIG! Lol

I don't doubt fora second that you can't pull this off! If this doesn't work then I've just ruined my car lol. Ive cut the car as much as I need to. And the engine seems to fit about an 2 inches infront of where the driveshaft will be. The only other thing I was wondering is how are you overcoming the waterpump? This thing is massive! Are you taking it out completely or adapting it to just lay idle?

Hehe I'm just jumping in knee deep! Lol well if I think of anything I'll see what you think I'm hoping to have some sort of frame in the car this weekend to mount the engine in , I'm just trying to do whatever I can do which seems to be just cutting my car apart lol

Yep it's official, you're crazier than i am!



Now it would appear from your pics that you can move that engine back more, a good 2" i'd say, but hard to tell from the pics, great stuff.... and proof that once the new firewall is in it will fit, you can also gain 2" by losing the distributors, i'd seriously do that, figure out some other way of getting sparks with coilpacks etc, space is more important than having a spark right now lol.

Here's my progress....

Today i got an OB1 starter motor (very hard to find!) and worked out how that is going to fit in around the V12, things are tight! Very tight.... but if i grind away enough of the block castings around the starter it will fit by 3mm without thinning the walls of the block itself. This was a make or break situation for the project, the whole thing would need a major rethink if this starter did not fit on the engine side of the gearbox, but it will.... JUST!

This is a library pic to show you the area that needs removing, this will also allow the OB1 Diff to clear the block too.



So i'd wait until i can give you specific measurements (remember my block is scrap so let me make the mistakes at my end!) before cutting the engine, but it will work.

Hi mate cheers for the update the dizzy caps are gone they was just left on ... Well just didn't take them off lol. I spoke to Bailey motorsport who are gonna wire the thing up with a megasquirt ecu so I can run the coilpacks.

As for starter issues I think I'll let you get this bit done as I can't afford anther engine lol plus I still ain't got a gearbox to line things up to. The gearbox I can't get my head round without seeing it. I don't need the flywheel on the engine do I???

Also how much power do you think Audi's new box can handle???

You won't need the V12 flywheel, have you got one by the way? I don't have one but i could do with one to help get the Audi flywheel adapter made, if you could send me yours that would speed things up with that, we don't actually need the V12 fly though, the Audi fly is what we'll use. If you don't have one i'll just have to find one on Ebay or something when the time comes.

I've no idea how much power the Audi box will handle, suck it and see job!

I ask about the power thing as Im thinking twin turbo charging it lol looking around the BMW forums and found a fella running 500bhp on standard internals with twin turbos. There's plenty of room for them so I thought why not lol

Twin turbos, you total nutter! I really don't know how much torque the audi box will hold, it might be stronger than we think.

When you say flexplate I guess you mean flywheel? Lol

German gear is normally over engineered and underrated so hopefully it should handle a fair bit, guess we will find out soon enough lol

I blame you for all this! If I hadn't seen the V12 thread I'd probably still have my lovely mk2 intacked and probably running by now lol
