So it's nothing to do with the speed that BD reads at? Not being sarcastic, i'm genuinely curious, it really wouldn't cost too much to fill the disc full of ultra hi-res renders

PS3 all the way. I know 360's breakdown quite a lot...something about the ring of death people say.

Had mine 2 years and no ring of death. My first machine freezed a few times and I excercised my consumer rights and got a new unit. But then my PS2 froze alot and by all accounts the PS3 does as well, including my PC and my lap top ... xxxx happens they must all be xxxx?

No subscription fee for online pay.

But how many games can you play online? Warhawk?

the only way you can compare graphics is to have two identical tvs next to each other not looking on gametrailers
gametrailer videos are a pathetic excuse for a argument

Very sad people have done this and have confirmed as much, xxxx game trailers, game reviewers say the same and I am not even into the whole game scene and even I know as a lay man that this is the case.

i agree the xbox has got more games at the mo but it was released a year before so it will have but the theres going to be loads of more exclusives for the ps3 coming out HOME,ferrari challenge, haze, wipeout HD, gt5, metal gear solid, rfom2

For every one you can list there is another equally good 360 only title.

Oh also Blueray is gonnabe more popular since HD-DVD pulled pout of selling its units...The first half of the year was good for 360 but I see PS3 catching up and slowly overtaking now....

Most games from the snes and md era still play fantasticly. For pure gameplay you cant beat 2d. Mario, Sonic and the like all have perfect fine tuned gameplay.
The PS3 and 360 offer nothing at all. So far the games are soulless and disappointing, not all mind just most. You could tell the effort people used to put into making games, stories, interactive experiences.

Snes/MD to PS1 N64 was a huge jump in terms of visuals and possibilities.

PS1\N64 to PS2 xbox same again. They refined 3D gaming and gave us the online option.

PS2/Xbox to PS3/360..................um sharper graphics.

The games released lately are throwaway titles. They will mostly be discarded and forgotten about in the future. Again in not saying all, but i could list at least 50 Snes titles that are still good today.

LOL my point certainly doesnt help but Matt got me started!!!!

So imo if you really need a new console get a PS3 coz both machines are boring but at least it has blue ray. :thumleft:

Stan Glasgow, president and chief operating officer of Sony Electronics, has revealed that the Japanese electronics maker is in talks with Microsoft about offering a Blu-ray Disc drive for the Xbox 360. The Financial Times reports:

But after Sony’s victory last month in the high-definition DVD format war, Stan Glasgow, Sony Electronics US president, said the two sides were now talking about Microsoft adopting Blu-ray.

A Blu-ray drive in a 360 would make Microsoft more competitive with the PS3, but it would also mean extra revenues for Sony’s electronics division. It would also add further cost to the 360, meaning a premium edition of the console could be necessary.

Out of interest, do you still own and play all these old games?

I've had all the old consoles and at the time I enjoyed them but they are a world apart from the new consoles. The level of detail, content, story lines, game play, online play, graphics pretty much everything has moved on.
People seem to confuse sentiment with quality. When you go back and play these games you suddenly realise just how much it's moved on.

I do PS1 and PS2. I dont get so much time to play games but I havent moved to next gen yet. Im sure i will eventually.
Also i do play the older stuff too, Snes, MD, N64 but not often as i dont have time. A lot of the titles still play very well. After all a good games is always good.
Titles from the Snes and MD era play fantastic. A lot more simple perhaps but still very good.

I used to (until quite recently) think Super Mario 1, 2 and 3 were the best ever games.
Until I bought the 360 and played FEAR, Condemned, Bioshock, GOW, COD 4 and the racing and sports games.

Even enjoyed Drakes Fortune and currently playing Resistance Fall Of Man on the PS3.

Before I bought the 360 I was considering buying an old console for all the old games but now I wouldnt waste 5 minutes on them.
I've downloaded quite a few of the oldie on Xbox live and the only one I enjoyed was Worms lol.

Everyone has different ideas, its what makes the world go round, heck even this topic.

I do feel im in the minority here. But i know a fair few people in the industry who agree with me on some level. Creativity certainly has stunted badly due to the increase in production values.

Another thing Matt, Fear and the other titles you mentioned are as much of an experience as a game. Mario and the like certainly cant reproduce the feeling of being there like they can now.

Me too. I love Silent Hill, Final Fantasy etc. Ok not same type of game as Fear but same atmosphere building experience. But not nessecarily better than old.

TBH I cant completely put my finger on why ive not got a new console. Yes I still believe games have stagnated in design and are a bit generic. But ive always own at least one new console. I did own a 360 once but i sold it after a month.

Your missing out :thumleft:

Get another one.

Play Bioshock and then forget all the old games altogether! Brilliant story, keeps you waiting all the way through. Beautiful graphics and litterally weeks of game play.

I thought that genre of games was well and truly finished!

I played a bit of Virtua Fighter recently, terrible!

Virtua Fighter is brilliant. Most people think its crap coz they cant play it. Its so hard and has so many tactics.

Final Fantasy isnt boring at all Thai. I dont see how you can play the same old FPS over and over. I cant believe that genre is still going. Talk about over 15 years old.

Anyway im not here to slag types of games as you have Thai. I happen to enjoy Final Fastasy alot. If you like FPS type games well good for you.
