Thats an attitude of someone thats lets face a bit stupid, and no im not sorry if that offends you.

At the end of the day all the honest people in here are paying for all the inconsiderate scumbags out there without insurance, just like all the tax payers inthe country are paying for the lazy a**holes who claim benefits even though theres nothing wrong, you may miss the odd mod but if you have declared a list as long as your arm its unlikely the insurance wouldnt pay out, my policy just states 'all mods covered' and doesnt even list them as theres so many.

The problem is this is the way it is, there are millions of uninsured drivers.

its been likes that for years and will prob be like it for years to come.

My car is fully insured, but as stated ,everytime u up or down your boost your invalidating you cover - you may have told them about the device (EBC or MBC)but anything that changes power at the flick of a switch technically renders the cover useless.

Another thing is - you cannot invalidate your third party insurance even if you have undeclared mods, the insurance company would have to make payment to the third party. They would not have ot make payment for damage to your car. They would also have the right to sue you for any monies that they have paid out. They would not be able to avoid the claim by any injured person.

Thats not to say you shouldn't pay the extra caused by declaring your mods. I would always recommend it, it may be more now, but on a purely financial scale it is a lot less then if you have to pay out for repairs in the event of an accident.

You can always put it on a limited mileage policy, say 3000 per annum, and dramatically reduce yourinsurance premium as well. Also it may be reduced by putting your father / mother / brother / sister on the policy as wlel if they are older or have more no claims etc.

I cant be reading through all this but fact is - if you dont declare something your not covered.

A risk YOU may be willing to take but you could damage some one elses car or kill some one. Thats a risk not worth taking. Quite frankly I would be more than a little pi$$ed with some one doing that to me.

If you cant afford the insurance on a modded car DONT MOD IT.
Your no better than some little chav in an uninsured wrecked Nova IMO if you do.

so you declared absolutely everything

Uprated clutch?
What Psi you are running
How about its a cold day and your boost spikes by 1psi? That increases performance

Eactly, a sensible person. I am not putting peoples lifes and cars at risk. I am insured and i pay good money. i am just putting my car at risk if i have a bad enough accident for them to inspect it.

I listed every mod on the car, I over estimated the total power too...

I quoted 300bhp the last RR it made 285bhp.

There's no argument here - if you cant afford to insure a modded car you simply shouldnt mod it. It's childish at the end of the day.

You dont have a right to have a car like that and do as you please. I agree insurance prices are too high but that doesnt mean you can do as you please.

The insurance company are not interested in your daily power output just your theoretical maximum, or alternatively the maximum achieved on a dyno run with your current set up. A small difference either way is not going to void your insurance if you're seen as being upfront.
I know that if I needed my insurance company to pursue somebody who was un-insured or had voided their insurance by not declaring etc. then I'd insist they did so or do so myself.
The final word from me is that like it or not, insurance is a running cost that you must take into account when owning/running a car. So if you cannot afford it, don't do it.
At the end of the day you must decide what you want to tell your insurance company and live with the consequences.

Please do not take my remarks out of context, I still believe you should declare everything and pay your money like everyone else.

I for one would not risk any of my babies like that - except the bike as its on TPFAT at the moment due to low value.

You may think your a good driver but accidents do happen, I came close on Saturday and it pains me to say but it would have been my fault.

I work in insurance for a living, just spoke to my elder wiser collegue who says that if your TPFT and you hit some one they can deny THEIR claim too.

Invalid insurance is as bad as no insurance basically.

Save yourself a few more quid and dont bother at all.
You might not hit some one.............

In the case of personal injury they are unable to, because of the aforementioned scenarios where someone may suffer for the rest of their life without the monies that would be paid for by an insurance company.

Ok but forgetting that - they can and probably will decline to pay their damages.

How would you feel if an un-insured driver hit you and you had a written off car and no compensation through no fault of your own?

Not to mention it's against the law and you can be prosecuted and sued for it.

Childs family try to claim off you but get nowhere cos you can;t afford an extra £300 insurance let alone the upkeep of a child, but its all ok cos you might be able to get an extra years no claims.

Its not all about sticking your car in a ditch backwards and scurrying around trying to take off you MBC.

This would be me then? I havnt declared my rev5 alloys. :-k

Erm I'm on your side...
I have said above to insure your car properly or not to use it.
I've not condoned not declaring mods anywhere in this thread, simply stated some factual accuracies.

TBH, the attitude of 'Why should I bother to do things properly when someone else is getting away with not doing it properly?' is really saddening. Is it any wonder the UK is rapidly turning into a xxxx-hole and less of a community?

I can't understand why anyone would NOT want to do the right thing just to save a few quid for themselves. It ends up costing everyone more in the end. I wish more people would think 'what are the actual consequences of my actions?' and make a value-judgement before doing something rather than basing their decision on 'can I get away with this?'

You can throw as much money as you want at the police/DVLA/whoever to sort this out, but without people seeing the difference between what's right and wrong, it's not ever going to solve the problem of uninsured and underinsured drivers.

Not aimed at any individuals in particular and a slightly extreme reply, I know, but it hit a nerve.

I hope people are starting to see the bigger picture now and that insurance companies are not necessarily the rip-off merchants everyone thinks. We also had a $20m+ claim a good few years back when one of our insureds ran over and killed an American senator in London. Don't know how that ended up but the cost of the litigation alone runs into £££...

As far as being holier-than-thou, I admit sometimes I get a bit fed-up with that attitude when it comes to speeding because I find it very hard to believe most people don't do it. Or maybe I'm just very naughty. However certainly all the 4 years I had my MR2 I did declare all mods I knew about, right down to chrome rings on the dials etc. Once you've made a list up it's only a few minutes work to update it each time the mods change.

Also give the insurers some credit for living in the real world, if you even changed the brand of your tyres/brake pads or whatever from standard spec then that would 'technically' be a modification...they have to draw the line somewhere. If you declare a boost controller then they should recognise that this'll be used to increase & decrease boost (just like your accelerator) and that's taken into account...nobody would call that altering the spec of your car when you turn the knob  .

You do not invalidate your insurance by changing your boost. As long as all your mods are declared. You insure for a max power.

if you adding or taking away 50HP at the push of a button that makes a whole shambles of the insurance system - why bother leting them know that you could run 300HP if you spend most of the time at 250HP - if you have a crash do you really think they will care what boost you were running - ALSO THE STOCK CAR has is own Toyota VSV boost controller as STOCK so why the hell should you mention you have fitted another boost controller.

The insurance system for cars in the UK is b0ll0cks anyway. we should be like the USA the CAR is what is insured not the driver. Think how many Drink Drive problems might go away if a sober friend could just take you home etc...

Do people that say switch from Rev 1 wheels to Rev3 wheels invalidate there insurance? what about changing the Rear spoiler and lights to a Rev 3? will do it..

I remember a xxxx insurance company banded about by Fast car and the liks - Adrian FLux? is it?

Told them on a old car about a turbo and decat - They classed it as a performance exhaust system - How wrong is that?

Trouble is too many insurance companys have too many diffrent ideas about what is a mod and whats not, it does not seem to have any standard list to go on in my experance.

The Morris wrote:ive just got my renewel £484

but ive onyl declared whells and exhaust

I phoned sky and declared everything and they quoted £786

The thing is lots of the stuff comes off quibkly or is hard to notice it.

Hybrid - looks standard - if its got toyota on it - why bother.
Water injection - unscrews in 10 minutes - more of a engine saftey mesure - does not increase HP
Greddy intercooler - fits in standard position and looks standardish - unless you increase boost its not goingt be any better in the real world than stock
Forged pistons - how would they know - exataly
MBC - removeable very quickly - yep if you set it and lock it to not produce more than a stock VSV boost controller - is that a mod?
Lowewered - cant get round that one
Downpipe - must be covered by the exhaust
wheels - covered

should i go for the cheaper option or get fully insured. Ive had my Mr2 with then for 3 years
