Karl's best chance to sell it without fixing it is on this site to someone who understands the quality of work involved, and the fact that a specialist who knows the car inside out is confident it can be fixed without a huge bill (would Peter have made his super kind offer if he thought it could cost £££'s to fix if it was a non-warranty issue?).
In order to get the asking fee on ebay I genuinely believe the best bet is to take Peter up on his offer, and then be able to offer the car as 100% fault free.
Let's not be silly either- Karl has read this, of course he has...and for some reason I can't understand has decided not take the obvious course to get it sorted (coming from a very recent parent who quickly came to realise that the internet was one of the best ways to keep sanity during the late late night feeds!). I just don't understand why he hasn't taken Peter up on his offer- it makes no sense.
I too have considered buying the car, I don't want another MR2, but in it's current condition it will potentially sell well below it's real value, get it fixed and sell it for it's real value...easy money. Only problems are I don't have the cash, and I would feel guilty as hell- Karl needs the money himself.
Good luck with the sale Karl- I genuinely hope you get the cash it's worth, and I hope you are enjoying parenthood as well!
100% agree Ashley.
