Awesome man. What did you think of it? Was it a C6?

Do you know if it was a Z06 or god forbid ZR1?

Unless it was the new C7 in which case we need you on the vette owners club for a review :D

Thanks Karl :)

Viewing and possible sale this weekend coming - hopeful, as after this weekend I can no longer be insured on the car and test drives will legally require their own insurance.

Under the new 'continuous insurance' regulations, if the car is no longer insured it has to be SORNed. Which makes it legally impossible for the prospective buyer to test drive it if you don't have the car also insured your self :-(

jon,

Thanks for that. I will bear that in mind... I can store it in a garage and cover it temporarily for test drivers then, perhaps.

When your insurance runs out, you will have to SORN it and you can get a refund on any full months left on the road tax.
If you then later on want to temporarily put back on the road for a test drives, to legally drive it you'll need to both tax it and insure it.
Anyway, sorry to take your thread off topic, good luck with the sale!

Very very cheap now

If I wasn't so set on buying a supercharger for my car along with a few other trick bits I would be tempted to buy this as a spare MR2. IMO it's worth more than that all day long, if even to dry store it as an investment!!

Hi. I'm quite interested in this. I was after a turbo but with the supercharger kit it could be worthwhile. Is there anything you can tell me about the beams engine? I've heard about them before but don't really know what makes them special.

Well, the beams is an N/A engine designed right at the end of the 90s by Toyota. It was their first VVT-i engine and although late behind Honda's VTEC, still reasonably early to the game.

Operatively, the car gets better torque and power from 2.0L NA - up to 200ps over the previous 170hp. Approx 10 extra ft-lbs. The engine is a high-compression unit and generates more of its torque lower down in the rev band, which as we all know is a lacking area in the 3S-GE. It's not V6 or V8 type 500rpm torque, but from 1500 there's a good pull.

Little bit of further info for you:
http://www.beams-redtop.com/redhome.htm

As for the supercharger kit - it isn't a 'bolt on' or I'd have just done it and sold the car for twice the price  there is work needed on the ECU front and some pipework items. You will also need Rotrex oil. I would want forged pistons for piece of mind. However, the whole build has been done before and there's therefore someone to field questions to. At the same time, it would be the only Rotrex'd Beams driving in the northern hemisphere - as far as the internet knows at least.

In a straight line, stock for stock, the beams will not keep up with a turbo. However, it is much much easier to drive fast on wet roads especially, as the power is absolutely linear and varies with your throttle position. There is no boost spike or sudden release of torque, so I've found on drives that I never fall behind a turbo driver. Until you're on the dual carriageway or something.

Today the Supra brakes came off. The remainder of the mods are still on. I may start swapping seats etc back to standard.

Will take £2800 for easy sale.
Will take £4250 for supercharger kit inclusive. This allows you more money to complete the charger kit.

There have been two MR2's I have been interested in recently. Both at opposite ends of the british isles. I think for sure I would have bought this on impulse by now if it were nearer.

My dream 2 would be modernised-but-stock-looking, rust free (hence likely import) rev5 T-Bar in a rare colour (silver, champagne, mica orange or cosmos clue) with an NA engine conversion - ideally 2GR 8) + LSD + fast road friendly susp, likely coilovers (which I already have on mine)

This is as close to that complete car as is available right now and has the added lure of being an original beams owned and maintain by an enthusiast at a ridiculous price.

GLWTS - I would personally hold onto it now until the weather picks up. Otherwise maybe get a few more 'seductive' pics up?!

Thanks for the comments my friend! The Arnold Clark (read: synXero) Real Sale ends Dec. 31 at which point I flounce and lock this in the garage until March. I can't honestly stomach letting it go for less than 3k before then so if it doesn't go I will just have to grit my teeth and learn my lesson.

3k for this car, even though it has one or two little niggles, is so worth it though. I suppose the run up to Christmas and the location north of 90% of the buyers makes it a struggle though... It is quite saddening that no one wants a quality MR2 just now. Lots of interest - no viewings. It would sell itself if only people would travel!!

I'd love to see it stay in the club.

Will get some new photos of it this weekend, with new brakes on and all.

Distance shouldn't be an issue if the right car comes along, especially in the UK.

I've travelled up and down the country many times when I was based in Manchester, you're well placed there.

I've just done a deal on a car and on Saturday morning (after my work's do) will be boarding a train from Newcastle to Devon to collect it. Now that's going to be a long day!
