On Thursday I took the car for mapping, I installed a Greddy emanage ultimate ECU a few weeks back and took it to Thor-Racing

The results are quite good, the car feels smoother, idles better and definately pulls harder, it also is giving me a safe basis for my nitrous

anyway the results, I had 2 printouts done, one as it went in before any mapping, and the final one on a complete map. The first map is showing that the car was producing 129.5 BHP at the wheels, the second map is showing its producing 153.7 BHP at the wheels Thats not bad I reckon, to say the stock 3sge engine comes with 158bhp at the FLY, and now Im not far off that figure at the wheels!

so all in all it went in for mapping, and came back out with a 24.2bhp increase, a good idle, a smooth power delivery and a safer engine

:)

time to finish the nitrous off....

Hi Dale,

Could you clarify this if possible, just throwing down some old comments too for any one else as lost as me

Poohbear wrote:On Rev3 cars instead of having the shim sitting in the top of the bucket that fits over the end of the valve they have them fitted inside the bucket....the benefit is that the shims cannot be spat out when high lift cams are fitted.

Bob

Now I know yours is a Rev2, did you do the underbucket conversion. I was under the impression that it had to be done but........

Here's a good thread on the conversion

http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic. ... nderbucket

And some good comments

EdMR2 wrote:hks do make 2 types of cam but there not revision dependant, there just a high and low lift version of the same duration.

Although the High lift shouldn't be fitted to the rev 1/2 because it can cause the shims to be flicked out of the buckets.

The rev 3+ with its underbucket shim can use both high and low lift cams.

The basic fittment is the same and are interchangable.

Some people also use the High lift cams on the rev 1/2 engine without changing there buckets, Jekyl and Hyde for one as confirmed by josh at chico who built the engine that its still retaining the standard overbucket shims.

Ed.

As you went for 264 cams, have you any idea what would be the effect of using different duration cams or even a split set up of 264/272 etc as I've seen on some Tubbies.

POSSIBLE- Toda cams- 304 degree, 8.5mm lift, £240 each, these will make 8500rpm and have been adviced that they will be enough to produce 200BHP.

Any 3SGTE or 3SGE aftermarket adjustable pulleys will fit.

Cheers

Hi marc, My head is just a rev2 head that has been ported, it has high lift 264 cams and is retaining the original shim set up. I was going to do underbucket, but after searching alot of posts on here, and listened to the members that I percieved as experts from experience, it seemed that there was no need to go underbucket until raising the rev limit to over 8000rpm

one other thing is that the highlift 264's from piper DO NOT fit in the rev2 head until the head has been machined, this is because the cam lobes are so high lift that they hit the side of the head where the bucket sits, heres a pic:
Image

It took about 15mins per lobe to get the clearance correct :thumleft:

I'm not sure on what a split set up would be like on an NA, I haven't researched that, I believe the turbo boys split it to aid spool of the turbo, I think on the NA you would be better off on just having one duration, id be tempted to go for 272's and I was thinking about it, but i think the 264 is a good compromise to power and reliability, in the way 272's may make it prone to stalling more frequent

My 264's are dialled in to piper spec, and they are lumpy, its took me a loooooong time to get a good idle, peter gidden had a few issues trying to get it to idle, we eventually found a decent idle where it would idle 85% of the time, now that its been mapped it idles 99% of the time, so whatever you do budget a ECU purchase and mapping session :)

Seeing as though the wiring for the nitrous was complete, I took the plunge to crack on with the engine work

Im running direct port with venom injectors, so I had to drill and tap 8 holes in the intake. After getting advice from Trevor (the wizard of nos) he confirmed that my planned arrangement would give good results...
Image

equal length fuel and nitrous lines were cut and installed on the injectors
Image

I then made a bracket for the distribution block so it was in a location that fed all cylinders equally and connected the nylon hoses to the distribution block
Image

Once I was happy, the manifold was bolted back on, aswell as my strut braces that havent been on the car for about 2 years! A t-barb was also cut into the fuel line and the hose fed into the boot to feed the pulsoid. At the right hand side of the boot you will see the fuel and NOS lines coming from the pulsoids
Image
Image

and the 11lb bottle with its warning/information stickers and valve with the pressure guage and pressure switch installed. Its also now on a quick release bottle mount.
Image

The bottle bracket was bolted to the boot floor, and the carpet mounted over it to look neat
Image

The pulsoids were mounted on another bracket I made, to create the effect they were floating, no unsightly bolts or scew holes here

Image

I just need to connect a few things up, make a loom for the bottle heater, do a few tests, and then ill start off at 25 shot and see how that goes, then keep increasing jets....

Thanks for the comments chaps...

Today was the day that i completed a bit of wiring, did a few tests and gave the nitrous a whirl!

I completed a idle/static test to make sure i was firing fuel and nitrous through the pulsoids ok, all seemed good, so with a 25 bhp shot, ( 25 fuel jet and 50nos jet) I went for a drive... I started off in normal mode, hit the button, planted my foot and felt it kick in instantly :D even for a 25shot it felt good.

So I had a bit of a play with the 25, got home, checked everything ok which it was, and put a 50shot on 8-[ (50fuel, 100nos) , fooook it felt awesome, just pins you back in the seat and off it goes! \:D/

I have some colder grade plugs to put in, a map on my Greddy emanage ready to retard the timing a few degrees, and maybe tommorrow ill put a progressive 75 or 100 shot in it 8) its so addictive!

The only downside is that when I turned the nos off and planted my foot, it felt so slow in normal form :( , but I guess thats what having such a power increase does to your mind!
