Is the PS3 better than a C64, all in here

AMD processors doing all the work no doubt....

I thought AMD were inferior to Petium?
If they're inferior then it goes to say, the other 13k PS3 ones could be inferior to say, hmm, a 360 chip :eye:

AMD is a company, Pentium is a brand name for a range of chips

Anyway, you guys are answering questions that haven't been asked, the remaining cold hard fact is that the world's fastest supercomputer uses Cell processors, which no one can argue is a phenomenal CPU.

Still, apart from the obvious Console crowing (no doubt IBM would have been helped to make their decision by the fact that they actually fabricate the Cell processor) that amount of computing power & performance from $120 million is just staggering.

I can't find any cost in $ for BlueGene/L (http://www.top500.org/system/8968), but if it has broken the petaflop barrier, then it's twice as powerful :aghast:

I think that Mr10 is pointing out that you are asking if a company is inferior to a particular core design. Is a Renault inferior to a 1999 Focus? er, dunno :flossy:

Is AMD inferior to Intel? - I'd say, since AMD are having a bad time of it for the last 18 months, but they managed to steal a march on Intel before, so there isn't a reason why they couldn't do it again.

Who cares what's in it. Cant say its a very big selling point for anyone other than those that are a bit geeky.
A console is for playing games and having fun on, and at this point of time the 360 is better than the PS3 at doing that.
Sony have lost sight of what's important, and have tried to win over people with technical wizardry that no one cares about instead of focusing on its core business, which is making a console people enjoy playing, something the PS2 was superb at doing, but the PS3 is not. Is a real shame because i was really looking forward to the PS3 and cant help feeling let down by it.

Petnium isn't a brand I'm familiar with.
At least Speedy understood the point being made!

lol, although thats a whole other thread (which may or may not have been covered before). It's technically interesting since supercomputer design (much like high performance sports car design) eventually filters down to consumer level components. This new super computer is doubly interesting though because it's actually made from consumer grade components :+:

It may well be interesting. But the the OP started this thread to bash the 360 by saying that the PS3 had a superchip in it and the 360 doesn't. So in regards to that my post was relevant.

Well I understood what matt meant by "I thought AMD were inferior to Pentium?" I was just continuing being pedantic like what your reply was to him :-P Noone ever remembers what AMD call their processors, and noone remembers that Pentium is made by Intel, so his question was perfectly valid :)

me, me, I do (and I know i'm not the only nerd around here)

you might as well ask if a pentium is better than a k6-2, or a opteron, since the pentium name spans a lot of different architectures and clock speeds :+:

You sad sad pedantic bastards lol.

Ok, especially for you - as far as I was aware AMD's line of processors are inferior to Intels line of equivalent processors.

If you didnt realise thats what I meant then I'm worried.
