I'm glad you're ok.

I think the phrase is "You should know better".

I can't believe that a Tubby driver who comes on this forum doesn't know that he should drive extra, extra careful in the wet and greasy stuff.

It's a good thing you didn't involve anybody else in your "accident".

Like I say I'm glad you walked away but a crap piece of driving is just that! :eye: 8)

I would be interested in knowing what tyres you had on the car though?

You don't want to know.

*cough* Yokohama/Nankang (F/R) *cough*. plenty of tread, but old)

Put it this way: I've held my hands up from day one as being totally at fault. It's what I told the police and they decided not to procecute. There were many factors that contributed to the off. All of which I knew about and were part of a list of things to change/improve.

I'm not looking for sympathy (although I appreciate all the nice comments). Just letting my fellow IMOCers know of my experience.

Sorry, got to perk up here.
It is indeed easy to say snidey comments about a post like this - as Moo said, it is easy to be judgemental when it happens to someone else. Would people be so judgemental if it happened to them? No!
Fact is, Matt has said it was driver error and completely his fault. Surely that is that? He chose to share this with other, fellow MR2 owners so hopefully the same doesn't happen to you. I will say that having gone round that corner, I doubt it was any faster than 40 as I wouldn't dare any faster and I felt him a better driver than me.
There are other factors that no-one will be aware of that unfortunately would have helped the situation occur - if he chooses to add these, it's his perogative (I can't spell so sue me  ).

Back in my box now - no toys left to throw

Tyres
up rated LSD
Close ratio gearbox

There you go. Makes it worse, really.

Unlucky chap, but others have said - they main thing is you're alive (and did'nt hit anyone else). Just curious though, given the fact you had an uprated LSD & close ratio 'box, why oh why did you drive it with 'ditchfinders' (AKA Nankangs) fitted? Even if I brought the car with a brand new set of 4, I would replace them straight away with decent tyres. The MK2 turbo punishes crap tyres more than any other car...

I know. I've really learned the hard way here. I was totally aware of all the issues and things were going to be changed as funds allowed, but you never think it will happen to you.

Well it seems the main lesson to be learned from this unhappy incident is that tyre choice on a performance car is critical, especially at this time of year!

That's stating the obvious but I'm sure most of us have been in a situation, myself included, when money is tight at tyre renewal time and it's easy to skimp in that department and put some cheapies on.

I've little doubt that the tyres were the biggest factor in this accident and Matt has shown us in the worse possible way what can happen with poor tyre choice :(

Definatley. Beg, borrow or steal the cash, but never put cheapies on any car (only bit of the car that touches the road and all that) especially the MK2 turbo. Best example of a 'false economy' there is IMO. But like I said, main thing is no-one was injured/killed.

Yeah I would totaly agree with all comments on having crap tyres, even on a N/A! dont.. it's that simple really!
Correct size & decent make is essential £50 extra spent on tyres could mean the difference between crashing and not crashing...

For the record Matt's two was the reason, and final nail in my wallet that convinced me to part with my hard earned cash for my two..

she'll be sadly missed.. :(

As all three of us at work have(had) them - it does feel like a family member has been lost..

RIP mate.
