[Mk2] [Turbo] My Christmas (photos of wreck included)

Post by mattcambs »

22nd December: Power over-steered my tubby into a lamp post at about 40mph. Completely my own fault (It's usually fun to find the limits of a car). I must admit that this completely caught me by surprise and the rate at which the back suddenly swung round was amazing. No other cars involved - just me on a spirited drive accelerating just that little bit too hard (in hindsight) on a wet, greasy road.

I consider myself very lucky to have escaped any injuries (except a few bruises).

6 days later Hannah and I were on our way to see friends and someone drove into the back of our other car ](*,) So we had a great xmas!

Just had the bumper replaced (all paid for by 3rd party's insurance) and 5 days later some pr1ck completely scuffed one corner whilst it was in a car park ](*,)

I don't feel like I have much luck with cars these days.
Looking for a nice clean rev3 though :)

How on earth you managed to walkaway from that with just bruises is amazing. :pale:

You were seriously lucky fella, your head 'should' have taken the full impact of hitting the post.

So you either a)have a really tough head :clown: or b) you were spared by the reaper on this occasion.

If that was me I'd be looking at life in a whole new way. :D

Glad you made it fella :D

About time we can talk about this!!!
I'll post some piccys up too when I get home. If it had of been a T-bar, he'd be dead...of this I have no doubt! Quite literally the lampost finished mid drivers seat!
At least he's ok though.

I wasn't trying to power slide, but yes lesson learned. And I wasn't driving dangerously (!) or speeding.

Thanks for the supportive comments. When people say I should be dead it really freaks me out. The wreck makes it look a lot worse than it seemed to me at the time. All I remember thinking was 'xxxx I've written off my car'. I know it doesn't look it, but the crash didn't seem that bad to me when it happened.

To say I'm in a dilema about getting another one is an understatement!

Get another one Matt, lesson learned! Least you are ok so good news mate. :thumleft:

Oh and love it how first thought was about the car not you!!! Proof you want another!
When i went into a huge slide 2 years back even with a passenger my first thought was 'Im gonna kill my car!!'

you were not driving dangerously? Your car was traveling sideways at considerable speed and totaly out of control. In what way is that 'not driving dangerously'.
If you are not in control of your car than you are not in control of what you crash into- lampposts, other cars, pedestrians... an out of control car is quite capable of wiping any of them out.
Glad to see you survived, hope you learn a lesson.

You are right, but my point was that I was not speeding and until the car suddenly snapped I was in control - or at least I thought I was.

I'm fully expecting a mixture of comments. All I can say is, it's very easy to criticise. Until my "off" I was all of the opinion that you would have be driving like a right idiot to spin an MR2.

 Fook a duck!
You should have played the lotto that day!
I lost mine at 20mph on boxingday luckily I didnt hit anything, was surprised to how quick they come around... it's not like your traditional rwd where it is catchable once it's gone thats it..
Your very lucky to not be dead after that mate

Rough luck man but glad you're ok :thumleft:

Not gonna take a swipe at your driving as I'm sure it's the last thing you want to hear after totalling your car! It's easy to get judgemental when it happens to someone else

I would be interested in knowing what tyres you had on the car though?

Again, glad you're ok. Put it down to experience and get back on the saddle :thumleft:
