Hi Simmo,

Can't figure out how to copy a thread so here's one I made earlier.......................

Hi Oddshoes,

You mean something like this?

Image

Don't do it, just don't.

It looks bloody good, but it took me 100's of hours of hand sanding. If you do go ahead just do the aluminium and paint any steel. Polished all the steel on my car as well as the aluminium but it rusted through the lacquer, and that included all of the brake components as well as the engine.

As to doing it just start off with 80 sandpaper, then 120, then 180, then 240, then 320, then 400, then 600, then 800, then 1000, then 1200, then rubbing compound, then t-cut, then finally autoglym.

Have a life, don't do it, just drive it.

BUT, if you've got the money buy a second set of aluminium components and pay someone else to do it (not me though).

Looking good. I have done loads of ally polishing having a harley. Autosol is more abrasive than Autoglym and good to start with. Use a metal polishing mop on a drill. Then autoglym to top up the shine and get an even brighter finnish. Autoglym also contains a protective wax.

I use hammerite smooth. I recently painted a rusty collector box on my motorbike exhaust. It is still on there and you dont get much hotter than that. :thumleft: Normal paint is not much good.
