Depends what one you've got, they've been running models for the past 20+years those EVC's!

I actually have a HKS evc 1 i'm keeping safe, hopefully be worth something one day (unlikely, ha!). But I like its old schoolness!

Alright :) I need to learn how that works then- do you reckon a fuel cut defender would have already been fitted when the boast gauge was fitted? And how do I check that?

I was going to replace both rocker and head gaskets but what are ARP studs and I'll get a photo of the gauge

[quote="jimGTS"]aside from a let down, i dont think its "cost you" really.

you technically havent lost much aside from a mapping session?
(and maybe transporting the car around).

you could have had 1000s of happy miles with the setup, you just got unlucky. (or it wasnt tuned very well!!!)

"cost you" would refer to maybe you'd payed ALREADY for a forged build and that went pop. not on a "free" stock motor IMO.

Maybe you are right maybe not Jim but it's still going to cost to get it back on the road probably was an element of bad luck all I was trying to say to the op was listen to people and I don't really need you telling me what it cost because you don't know me or my personal circumstances, I was just trying to let the op know there is a lot of people on here worth listening to. Reading some of your posts I'd put you in that bracket.
My wife hates my mid life crisis car and would love me to get rid of it for the record ( not happening). So that's the cost is lots of earache.

Just figured out why they stay at 0 the white cable isn't connected to the Rev's - what cable would I connect this one to?

Hey man! Since you've used this could you run me through what setup should be on it? Just for running stock and then what each part means as the manual speaks in another language to me and I don't want to se it to something that will blow up :')

Thank you man!! Yeah I was reading it and didn't understand much of it so I tried looking to see if someone had explained it simpler but I just need to know what to set it to and then what is the variable I can adjust as I do more to the car and what should stay the same :')

The tricky bit is setting up base boost level .. with the unit reset do a 3rrd gear pull and watch for when boost was most stable and use that as your base level...

After that the unit is in kpa so 80kpa if roughly 0.8bar .. 90kpa is 0.9bar ect it just gives you greater control over boost think mines set to 94kpa .

If theres anything you dont get in the manual give me the page number and ill see if i can work it out , two heads better than one n all that :thumleft:

Righttttt, I think I got that, so reset it? I'll read the manual for that - 3rd gear pull? Assuming that it stick it in 3rd and go for it :') look at the gauge see what it's sitting at?

And I think mines in psi? Or will it change upon reset?

Like i said its tricky .. 3rd grear quiet road 2500rpm then foot flat to the floor to the redline, your looking for the longest amount of time boost was stable watching the gauge and then convert from psi to kpa .. remember it might not be peak boost and ignore spikes ... took me a few pulls, put in the results to the evc and jobs a good'n.

eg. If it sits at 5psi from 3000rpm to 5500rpm then creeps up to 7psi from 5500rpm to 7000rpm ..your baseline is 5psi.

If you type in to google 5psi in kpa , the answers given to you 35kpa if you round up :thumleft:

Ahaha I've never redlined this car! God save me :') rightttt so I have to watch the dial, you sure that the dial doesn't just keep going up I've had it reading 13psi before :/ im actually useless at this but I'll gove it a go but do I reset it and do the initial set up? Or does it still work after the reset?

Yes you will need to do the initial setup .. I will get the manual out the car in a bit .. when you do the 3rd gear pull you should only hit 5 to 7 psi if it sky rockets abort and get back to me somethings wrong.

Alright so if it goes over 5-7 just stop :') I'll do all this tonight when I get in from work about 6:30 :) or attempt it on my way home ;) alright so I can just clear it and do initial setup - if. You can run me through how to do that I could do that before I start on my way home and get a reading for you before I get home And we could go from there

Scroll through settings till you get to all reset mode press the volume knob for 1 second , then turn the knob to yes and press the vol button .

Now your reset.

1.set up pressure measurement you want kpa or psi.

2. set S for swing valve .

3. setting base boost (flore it a few times on the way home like we talked about) then put in the results .

Hope that makes sense
