You got a bargain there forgies of £100 :thumleft:

Yep, that's why I like Lithuania :D Here is no demand for 3sgte parts, but also supply....

Thanks, appreciate that! :)

Little by little, it's changing to track car... I would still like to have one clean 2 for daily driving :)

Have just realised how the wing helped me in a corners. Take a look at both videos. The same suspension, the same tyres (even they were worse in a run with a wing). I think the difference is obvious, even from the video :)

With a wing:

Without it:

For the next season - front splitter on a list :)

Looks to be doing it's job well :)

If you're feeling a difference and seeing an improvement in lap times, then I think it's a job well done :thumleft:

It's hard to say about lap times, because the track configuration was different.
In the slower track configuration with a wing my time was 1s slower. But the result in my group was better, so I think it's a progress :)

Some progress with rebuild.
Finally the engine is back! Fitted wiseco forged pistons, clevite racing bearings, fidanza exhaust cam gear, all new cometic gaskets.

Still lots of work to do with other parts, but the main job is done!
Image

The manifold and turbo were gasket matched.
Do you think it's needed to take the manifold to smooth the surface or is it smooth enough?

Also started modifying intake manifold. Still have to make a thick gasket of aluminum to cover that hole in throttle body.

Not sure what to do with cold start injector... The one from 3sgte manifold does not fit in 3sge manifold. Do you think I can use injector from 3sge?

Some time went through, not so much work done...

Some engine parts were sand-blasted. Intake manifold and valve cover is now being powder coated by silver and red. I hope to pick them up this Friday and will be able to put on the engine :) Also, I am waiting for turbo water gasket. Arter I have it, I will start mounting exhaust side. Now the engine block and pan was painted.

Body works have started. It looks worse than it looked with all body parts in places :)

What do you think about exhaust mani gasket? OEM or Cometic?

Have picked up powdercoated parts and fitted them on the engine to take a quick look :) I'm starting to like how it looks.

We have an interesting idea!
As you already saw my bodie's condition, you could agree it will be really difficult to fix all those rusts. And you saw not everything...
So, we are now thinking of cutting the car in a half and then fit another back from the car I have in great condition. That car it's RHD, so we can't just put everything in that body.
If we decide to do this, it should be interesting... :D

Couple more photos of this evening.

Fitted new manifold, but had to remove engine hang.

Looking good :)

Would it not be easier to buy a new shell and to swap your parts over to it? I'd always be worried about racing something which has been cut in two :-k

Engine looks good mate. As Phil said, I'd re-shell rather than cut and shut 2 shells together. :pale:

I agree with you both, but there are couple of problems.
Here in Lithuania at the moment there are 2 MR2s for sale, both N/A. The cheapest cost over 1300gbp. And still can't be sure about its condition, need to check. And I don't have enough money for it... Also, if I will put everything into N/As body, I would need to take a car to inspection, which again cost a lot of money. If I could find LHD turbo body in good condition and for a good price, that would be nice. Unfortunately it's not possible.
We are still thinking what is the best solution.
About being afraid, if it's done well, nothing will happen :)

Hmm, I see your problem :-k

I'd still be a bit worried about cutting a car in half and then racing it though. If done properly it could/should be ok. Others who have a better understanding of this than me will be able to give you a more informed opinion :)

Thanks for your reply :)

So we made a decision now. It's to cut it in a half, make some reinforcements here and there + fit a rollcage. Then it must be strong enough!
The guy who will do cuting and welding, have lots of experience of doing this kind of jobs, so I feel confident enough.

To buy another shell would cost similar, but I will have a rollcage instead and will feel much more confident during racing.

A cut and shut car will never be as strong as the original monocoque chassis.

I certainly wouldn't rely on a cut and shut, whoever put it together.

I know it's probably not popular in UK, bet here in Lithuania it's quite normal to do such things. I agree it's not as good as monocoque body, but with a rollcage I shoudn't worry, I think.

We decided to transfer my Pinkie into full track car :)

It will have fia certified roll cage and other things needed to get it fia approved.

I began with a seat :)
Image

Today the shells should be cut in a half. After welding them, car will be taken to fit a roll cage.

Now some small progress on the engine:
Image
Image

Fitted new head to manifold and manifold to turbo studs to prevent blown gaskets.

Bought some bling bling :D

:o

Are the parts where the two cars are being joined together getting extra strengthening?
