A few satisfying jobs done today.

Image

First up I had a quick look at the leaky t-bar. Doesn't look too bad. Metal guide screws not rusty but some water getting in via the bar of the t-bar. Visiting Chris tomorrow for some experienced opinion on my seals...

I tried to get the old white silicon off them using silicon remover but really they are a mess still. They are also pretty perished in a few places. Think along with the t-bar overhaul I'm going to need replacement seals.

Anyway I got all the rubber/black trim sprayed and rubbed down with silicon spray. The whole car instantly looks much tidier.

The big win was that the horrible aftermarket aerial above the windscreen was really easy to remove. Here it is, going, going, gone!

Image

Turns out it wasn't screwed on - just stuck wiith sticky pad stuff. Also no wires, so must have just been cosmetic! Fair enough if the original aerial was wrecked but to put that nasty little thing on when it doesn't even do anything... weird.

After that I finished off drilling out the final nearside mirror screw, got the mirror off and replaced with the placeholder one while I respray both mirrors.

Finally drilled out one of the screws in the nearside headlight casing which was causing the wonky headlight cover. All nice and solid there now which is great. The whole headlight assembly is looking pretty rusty so will be keeping an eye out for some good condition replacements soon.

Also had a look at the HKS power flow air filter as overlooked this during the service last month. Looks pretty dirty so have ordered a refill filter. No idea if these are good items or not but like the look of the mushroom so its staying for the moment!

Quite a productive morning!

You need to remove the seal retaining strips that go from front to back of the T-bar area Paul

Both sides

Only then will you know if the bolts that hold the double channel have broken away

Your pic shows that you removed the front retaining strip on the passenger side but not the central one

A pund to a penny those bolts are broken :!:

Thanks Peter, I visited Ouki (Chris) today who's just down the road from me. He took me through the process of renovating the t-bar in detail so hopefully I'm all set to do this as soon as I get a whole day free with good weather. He also makes good tea!

Also checking my seals against his four cars it's clear to see the gaps between my glass panel seals and t-bar seals is huge. Pretty much all of his were snug together. I'm thinking that brand new seals and some good used glass is going to be needed.

Nice to meet a fellow IMOC for the first time. Hopefully the first of many!

Just a quick couple of jobs today. First change out the HKS Power Flow air filter with the (genuine HKS part) replacement. Then took all the headlight shroud screws out and sprayed them with satin black paint as they were really worn and messy. Also took the chance to clean up the headlight shrouds themselves as they had some white overspray dots (not from my respray stuff!) on them and were pretty tatty.

Image

Finished off with some silicone spray and must say very happy with the result. The headlights themselves look a bit yellow though...

Quick question - did the superchargers have the additional bit at the back of the centre console that stands up? See my pic - looks like I'm missing mine. The material looks worn where it might have once been ;-(

All AW11's had the bit at the back with the box. Looks like yours has gone walkabout.

Paul, mine is same as yours ...so maybe removing it was common practice in Japan!

hmm seems strange as if that bit was there originally you would have a great big metal bracket coming thought the carpet.. or at least 2 big holes where it used to be..

Yes, it's puzzling. Had a look at mine today. No signs of any previous fittings and and mine has no marks on rear carpet to suggest anything used to be there. Think I've got to fit one now as looks so bare up there without the trim box.

If you remove one of the centre consoles from a UK car there is a hole in the carpet which has a metal bracket bolted to the bulkhead, so if these have been removed where is the hole in the carpet (its not small) 3-4 inches wide by about 1-2 inches wide.

Just as Pete said

Change it for what? One with no bracket holes in it? :D

Not the first import i've ever seen with no cubby box and the EPC lists more than one part number for the same colour carpet = they did do a non cubby box version.

This does seem to be a bit of a mystery...

There is certainly some marking on the carpet which is just about noticable in that photo above. Basically two tram lines where the cubby box thing would have rested against the bulkhead.

Will need to investigate further to see if there is a bracket/holes lurking under the carpet. Looks like even if the car didnt come with the cubby box someone put one in at some stage -maybe just resting against the bulkhead and attached to the centre console - or they put something else similar there.

There is definitetly wearing to the carpet that would indicate this.

Does anyone know what size screws hold the black surrounds to the headlight pods?

Also what size bolts fasten the headlight covers to the pods?

Got a bit carried away tonight and removed the rear speakers (mid range and tweeters both sides) as one speaker wasn't working. Bad newsis that the internal C pillar trim has been butchered both sides. Will post up pictures later but it ain't pretty. I'm now on the lookout for replacement trim.

I also noticed a couple of hooks by the back window. They look like they are there to have the sun shades or something off of but I can't work it out! Any ideas?

Hooks are for hanging your suit jacket etc. All cars have them.
