Clear Cam cover for 3SGE?

Post by Noisyhooligan »

Hi, does anyone know where one can get a clear cam cover for a 3SGE? It is such a shame to hide a nice pair of shiny's away! 8)

It would be good to see if they are availible as I would snap one up straight away. I had one on my mk4 escort rs and was a great looks mod but best of all you can clearly see the cambelt so you can alwways see the condition of it and making sure all`s as it should be. The main reason I had one on my rs cause I had a cambelt change but when the cover was put back on one of the plastic bolt locaters snapped of which had a metal shim in it and it fell to bottom cover, I drove 20 miles till I heard a very dodgy noise and found out the metal shim had been catching and being knocked against the cambelt but the scariest bit was the belt was damaged and only being held together by about 4 mm, which was changed straight away but by a different machanic, so close to losing a engine

 I always think this too.
Its a nice touch when you open up the lid though :thumleft:

At worst, buy a standard one, dremel out the centre and replace with clear perspex (thin) \:D/

and put some LEDs in there :thumleft: King of McDonalds :?:

do you mean cam cover or cam belt/gear cover?

A clear cam cover that could take the heat would be very cool to see 8)

Working on the basis that he's talking about a clear cambelt cover :P I was scouring the internet for these a few weeks ago, never found one though. Surely they couldn't be that hard to make?

Was talked about alot a while back. Ultimately the cost of production was something like 10/20k for the mould tool and the first batch. so you needed 100/200 people interested to make it worth while... It was not!

For a couple of seconds, until the oil has been thrown onto the inside and all you can see is........

No offence to the guy that did it but that looks a bit pikey... I've inquired with a perspex fabrication company today about doing a limited run of clear cam gear covers so the showing-off-inclined amongst us can display our HKSness.

Surely the point of a cover is to keep crap out?

If you're getting crap in there I'd think there are bigger things to worry about. Its not like its a front engined car. Even then, look at Cosworths, they're all cambelt coverless and don't have any problems - not related to the belt anyway

Dont you just love those sentance's that begin "no offence.........but"

Thing is it cost about £15 quid if i remember right,
took about an hour to make,
which wasnt too bad considering.

Its functional as it allows easy access to my own "HKSness",
being removed in about 30 seconds.
