Tyre Expert advice needed

Post by GHOST »

I'm currently running a set of Oz Superleggras with staggered 7J fronts and 8J rears.

Tyres on the front are 215/40/17 and the rears are 245/35/17.

To be honest its a rough ride on the rear and the rear tyres don't fill the arches as much as the front because of the lower profile.

The rears tyres are due to be replaced as they're almost on the legal limit and I was wanting to get 245/40/17's on instead but my local tyre place, Camskill in Cumbria, has told me that if I put a 40 profile on the rear that it will upset the ABS.

Is this true? And if so, will it effect the car conciderably?

Tyres are Toyo Proxies.

Cheers in advance,

David.

nah, i run 215x40 and 245x40 17's and the ABS is well, not bothered. If you make the difference very silly then I can see issues but in a practical sense, I can't see it be noticable for small differences.

Cheers Allen. The tyre guy just seems so positive it would effect it, starting going on about percentages and surface to profile capacity etc and baffled me with science.

Nice car by the way. Black and blue works so well :thumleft:

Any pics of the 215 tyres on the 7J rim? I was looking to do this on my superleggera's but i thought 215's would be too wide.

Theres pics in my garage Murf but you can't really tell. 215's look right on a 7J wheel though, not too wide and definately not too shallow. In fact, I'm sure I've had 235's on 7J rears on my old MR2.

Stock rev3/4 wheels are 7J at the back, with 225 tyres as standard.
