update on my car

Post by marc GT Turbo »

in april my car was parked in the street and a lorry tried to park in a gap in front of where my car was parked. he failed :? what a burk #-o the back end of the lorry has a huge steel bar that runs across the back, acting as a bumper. when he turned into the space and he caught my drivers side front wheel and wing and bumper :( it went through insurance and they took my car away to be repaired  i knew it would be an insurance loss and couldnt believe the old fartknocker insurance assessor they sent round to my house to asses my car   i told him i was in the job, and had been for 23 years . he overlooked to many things for my likeing ! given the nature of the accident my wheel took the impact first (my car was moved about 1 feet) . my concerns were about tracking / camber / steering/ strut damage/ wheel damage/ steering rack . he overlooked all this and wrote down on his note pad my car was still road worthy and needed a new wing , indicator , bumper repair and a new plastic wheel arch guard. i wasnt to happy about this and said what about the wheel ? strut etc ............... he put down for the wheel to be refurbished #-o its polished alloy with an acrylic heat shrink ! (that means its a type of wheel that can not be polished ) i was dealing with a complete moron here :? i told him the car needs checking for wheel alignment and how do you come to the assumption that the car is road worthy by just looking and kneeling down to have a quick glance underneath !!!!!!! complete idiot ! i wanted to kick his ar$e there and then :smt013 i knew the car would be an insurance loss because i knew the wheels on my car could only be bought in a set of 4 . i told him this but wouldnt have it ............. so they took my car away to be repaired #-o #-o then nearly a month later i get a call from my insurers to say the car is an uneconomical insurance loss =D> =D> clever twits ! we cant buy a single wheel for your car , they can only be bought in sets of 4 !! so after a month of being messed about , i get my car back. they gave me my car back and a cheque for £1500. result :smt023 first thing was to check the steering etc . the tracking needed doing and thats it :-D wheel not buckled , no strut damage . i needed a toblerone indicator ( £12.50 ) and i knocked out the wing and repaired it myself and painted it at a cost of nothing more than my time ( total 7 hours ) there was a tear in the bumper where it meets the wing . i just plastic welded it and its solid. here are some pics of the car
this shows the wing gap ! the wing was pushed against the bonnet
Image

this shows the dent in the wing , the snapped end of the indicator , the wing lip bent under and the damage to the wheel

Image

you can just about see the tear in the bumper where the toblerone is snapped

Image

i straightened the wing gap and panel beat the dented wing out and reshaped the wing lip

Image
Image

i then repaired the wing and got it into primer

Image

preped the wing ready for paint and masked it up ready for paint

Image
Image

then painted it

Image

all that was left was to paint the toblerone trim (which is now done )

Image

and the latest mods ive done is fit crystal side lights/indicators

Image

and a rev 3 rear lights cluster with centre panel

Image

i am quite happy again now :thumleft:

i would just like to make a point about the rev 3 lights and centre panel ! i bought these off ebay from a member on the oc . they have nothing to do with mr2 will !

thanx for the comments guys :thumleft:

to fit the scoops i used sikkaflex . but i modified the scoops a little ! i bonded 8 mm threaded bolts x2 to each flat portion of the scoops and put a 10 mm nut to fasten it to the body/intake panel of the car . you dont need to do this but because i live where there are thiefing sods about this will prevent them from being stolen . remember !! not to bond them all the way round otherwise they could become a water trap ! leave an area where water can run out :thumleft:

small update

Post by marc GT Turbo »

car has now done 91 k , just fitted new brake pads on the front. handbrake cable . oil and filter . flushed the brake fluid out and replaced with new. to my suprise i thought my car was running ok but when i took my air filter off, ( induction kit vented to the air intake) i noticed that after all the salt thats been put on the roads of late that my filter was looking a bit dirty ! it was almost blocked with salt  after cleaning it, the induction noise has returned (quite a pleaseing sound  ) and performance is noticeable :thumleft: . stuck a new set of denso plugs in as well. all is well again and petrol consumption is alot better :thumleft:

i dont wanna colour code it so i can have black still. if i put skirts on and a front bumer lip then i wud do the colour codeing . i like the contrast thats all.
